Chris Johnson wants all of Tennessee's reps

Now that Chris Johnson has been paid – and paid quite handsomely, mind you – he realizes he’s going to have to start earning his four-year, $53.5 million ($30 million in guarantees) contract rather quickly. Which is cool by him.

“I’d like to get all the reps, that’s just the type of player I am,’’ Johnson told the Tennessean. “At the end of the day, it is more than just about the big contract and getting all the money. That’s the business side.

“But the type of player I am when I am out there on the field, I want to be the best and when it is time to win I want the team to count on me. I want to put the team on my shoulders and steer us to victory.”

Johnson returned to Nashville on Friday to sign his new deal and meet with his coaches, and on Saturday, he plans to practice with his teammates. And as far as his goals this year? Aside from helping his team to the postseason, he, not surprisingly, is planning to rush for 2,000 yards (you might recall that he said the same thing last year but managed “only” 1,364 yards).

But until then, he can count his money as the richest running back in the game.

“It looks like it is a great deal for both sides,” said Joel Segal, Johnson’s agent. “I think Chris got a great deal, I think the Titans got a great deal.”

And soon enough, Adrian Peterson will get a great deal as well. And maybe -- just maybe -- Peyton Hillis as well.

It's the NFL, players get cut or told take less or we'll cut. In a game where any play can be your last one. T. Davis in Denver lost his career making a tackle. Luckly the team had already givin him a raise. Johnson has been 75% of the Titans offense the last two years. They should have already paid him before he had to hold out. Briggs on the other hand already played his holdout card and got paid he should be honoring his current deal.

He is definately a talented back but this is a team sport in which big contracts and high rushing stats come second to wins. Why is it you never see a Steeler player holding out for more money? Because they don't recruit selfish players and if one turns down that road they let him go. This is the main reason they are the most successful organization in the NFL! Does Johnson deserve more money? Absolutely but I am a firm believer that contracts should be honored until the end of the contract. That is why they are called contracts isn't it?

superbronco I couldn't disagree more with your statement.  So selfish is being a workhorse? CJ has been worth about 80% of the titans offense for the past 3 years and earned every penny.  There is a reason so many people that play fantasy football take him top 3 over the past 2 years.  Making the call that a player won't hit 2000 yards is pretty easy your going to be right 99.9% of the time.

Not a Chris Johnson fan at all.  I don't think he gets 2,000 yard, he might get close to last years totals, but if he falls short, it would not surprise me.  He's a selfish player and the Titans should not have paid him if he didn't report to camp.  Now every player who thinks he is somebody will holdout and expect to get paid.  He is not a good team player, and I'm glad he's not on the team I root for.  I don't care how much talent he has.

Your "teamates know thet CAN"T count on you. Karma is a B+i+t+c+h.  So is "frendly Fire".  Take as many reps as you can get.  If you think for a minute that  those 52 other guys supported you while they busted tail, you are a taco shy of a combo platter.

He just cashed in BIG.  I'll keep an eye on him this season.
