Braylon Edwards pled guilty in court for a DWI and somehow escaped jail time. More good news came Edwards' way on Tuesday, too, as the NFL informed the 49ers that Edwards won't be suspended during the 2011 season.

That's per Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area, who also reports that Edwards will be tagged with a $50,000 fine from the league for violation of the league's substance abuse policy. In other words, he's getting off pretty cleanly.

Edwards' case is bizarre because he's been sitting out in limbo for quite some time -- his DUI occurred in September 2010 -- and because he's had other run-ins with the law since his DUI arrest. The league, however, indicated that this fine (and the lack of suspension) was for the DUI only.

"Any other matters will be addressed at the appropriate time," a league spokesperson said.

So, yeah, Edwards could up facing more discipline from the league, although it's not guaranteed. Perhaps, like the rest of the league during free agency, they'll just forget about him.

A little stiff on the fine but appropriate. Most work places wouldn't suspend you from work unless driving or operation of machinery is part of your job.
Got Edwards with my next to last pick on the cheep, will stash him and see if he does anything this year.

I think the worst punishment this guy got was having to play for the 49er's. That is punishment enough for anybody making their living in the NFL. Remember all those years when they were good? Getting hard to remember i know it's been so long ago. Karma is a you know what. and old Braylon is living that karma hell right about now and everytime he puts on that 49er uni.

Looked like he payed off the judge so he could play football this year. 50,000 is nothing these days.
Your statement makes absolutely no sense unless you thought he would be in prison for his DUI. The only way the judge could keep him from playing is by throwing him in jail for the season.
WARNING: TOTALLY UN-PC COMMENT BELOW.
People act like a DUI is the worst crime ever committed against humanity. While I certainly do NOT condone drunken driving, and this is in no way an endorsement for it, the laws have become somewhat insane. People with a 0.08 blood alcohol content aren't the ones causing problems. It's so typical for people to over-react these days about everything.
Again, DRUNK DRIVING IS BAD. I was with a friend of mine last year that got into a car accident. Someone ran right into the side of his car. Totally the other guy's fault. My friend had a couple (like 2-3) beers earlier. The cop said he smelled alcohol, and put my friend through all the sobriety tests. He passed them all because he was not impaired. He agreed to take a breathalizer test, because he was fine. He blew a .083, got a DUI, and all-of-a-sudden the accident was HIS fault. That is just crazy.
AGAIN, I DO NOT CONDONE DRUNKEN DRIVING, but the laws have become totally insane.

Trade him to the Bengals for the rights of/opportunity to talk with Carson Palmer. Carson Palmer might be a good backup for the 49ers.
A back-up? If the 49ers could get Palmer, he would be their best quarterback (by far). The 49ers have been hurting for a qb for years now. No qb on that team is even close to Carson Palmer (and I'm no fan of Palmer).

Millionaire athletes seem to avoid regular sentencing all the time. What a 'justice' system....
