Plaxico Burress rips Giants in Men's Journal

Remember the last time an NFL player did an interview with Men's Journal? Yeah, that went pretty well for James Harrison.

Plaxico Burress may be in some similarly hot water over his interview with the magazine, scheduled for the October 2011 issue, though at least he's only ripping the guys he worked with while playing for the Giants.

Tom Coughlin is the primary object of Burress' scorn, in case you weren't aware that they didn't get along while working with each other.

"He's not a real positive coach," Burress said. "You look around the league, the Raheem Morrises and Rex Ryans — when their player makes a mistake, they take 'em to the side and say, 'We'll get 'em next time.' But Coughlin's on the sideline going crazy, man. I can't remember one time when he tried to talk a player through not having a day he was having."

OK, so it's not exactly breaking news that Coughlin can yell a lot or rub players the wrong way. In fact, it's kind of his M.O. Plax's biggest beef seems to be the way he handled his -- ahem -- "situation."

"After my situation happened, I turned on the TV, and the first words out his mouth was 'sad and disappointing,'" Burress said. "I'm like, forget support — how about some concern? I did just have a bullet in my leg. And then I sat in his office, and he pushed back his chair and goes, 'I'm glad you didn’t kill anybody!' Man, we're paid too much to be treated like kids. He doesn't realize that we’re grown men and actually have kids of our own."
Plaxico's Predicament

First off, salary and maturity can absolutely be mutually exclusive. Just ask Lindsey Lohan.

Secondly, if your future job security and success is tied to a group of men and some of those men misbehave in a (technically) criminal way, and you're the type of guy who loves discipline, you are going to be sad and disappointed. In short: I'm not entirely sure what Plaxico wants from Coughlin and/or expects him to do. He's Tom Coughlin.

But he's also got some beef with Manning who, apparently, was the only player on the Giants not to shake Plax's hand when the receiver visited the Giants this past offseason.

"I was always his biggest supporter, even days he wasn't on, ’cause I could sense he didn’t have thick skin," Burress said. “Then I went away, and I thought he would come see me, but nothing, not a letter, in two years. I don’t want to say it was a slap in the face, but I thought our relationship was better than that."

I mean, maybe it was awkward because Plax and Eli used to really good friends and then he, you know, went to jail. Ever had a friend go to jail? The first time you see them isn't all "What's up bro?!?!" and whatnot. It's actually kind of awkward.

Whatever, the real point of the matter is that Plax is stirring up some unnecessary controversy, just like the last time he did an interview.

Brutal honesty is cool. Baring your soul is necessary for everyone.

But it's not necessary in the context of a magazine feature, even if the whole idea behind said feature is redemption and change and Burress' struggles over the past few years.

As you said, you're a Canadian so you wouldn't understand. Perhaps you should go on a different website and research a bit of American history before you continue to speak and confirm your ignorance. The reason the 2nd Amendment is enshrined in the Constitution is to protect the citizens of our nation against criminals and an overzealous government that decides it knows best. Read up on the redcoats and how they forced average Americans out of their homes and killed them in their towns. Learn about King George III and his tyrannical actions. Then come back a chastened man and understand why private ownership of guns is a Constitutional right.

Criminals will always find the way to get guns on the black market, it's decent citizens of our nation that use the right to bear arms as a way to protect ourselves and our loved ones. Ask those in London, England with its horrific crime rate how their ban on guns has treated its citizens.

As for Burress, these words were tame and have been spoken elsewhere. He's not the brightest bulb out there, but he is correct in what he said. Bloomberg engaged in an overzealous prosecution, Eli Manning didn't want to deal with him and Coughlin thought he was a moron. Nothing more to see here.

Ok being from Canada I think what Americans STILL and will ALWAYS tend to not understand is that guns kill and NO civillians without a clue in how to use a weapon should be running around with one! Thus the comment of "glad you didn't kill anyone" is 100% right on the money here! How much gang violence and whatnot is the result of people running around with a weapon?! Guns should not be in hands of anyone except the police and the military! Period! It is funny to me how no one in America, including the goverment gets this!? What happened to the days when if you had a problem with a guy you just went outside and had a good ole-fashioned fist fight and after you picked yourself up and went home! The altercation was then over with! Sheesh! Get a clue America!

Plax, you honorably served your time, I'm happy your with the Jets, and I'll even go as far to say you're accurate in your descriptions of Coughlin, Manning and Bloomberg. But let's get real man, you shot yourself in the leg, I couldn't think of a better metaphor for that. This isn't the appropriate time to find other people to blame for what happened when you know darned well that acting responsible gives you the power to avoid that. It was your gun and you fired it. I mean, gosh, DON'T BRING GUNS INTO PUBLIC PLACES. Your not the President, your a football player, no one's gonna attack you at a nightclub, LEAVE YOUR PROTECTION AT HOME. Expecting support from Bloomberg and Coughlin and Manning may help, but at the end of the day, you have to make the right choices

Plaxico Burress rips Giants in Boy's Life Mag

I like Paxico, but he's not coming off too well here.  Come on, you shot yourself....when does any coach have any dealing with a player accidentally shooting himself?  It's sad that he's not smart enough not to shoot himself and disappointing that he let everyone in his circle down (family and team).  Eli probably was pissed and didn't shake his hand.  Here's a guy that can help the entire team offensively and defensively (by keeping the other offense off the field) and you just went out there and shot yourself.  Plax does not like being touched at all....I wonder how things went in prison.

The bottom line is it was sad and disappointing for all Giants fans, Burress's family and any true fan of the entire game.  You are supposed to be a grown man.  You should have had more common sense than you displayed that night.  As much money as Burress and all NFL players make you would thing they could hire bodyguards, drivers or whatever when they are out at the clubs.  You shot yourself in your leg, just as bad as shooting someone else...but it makes you look like more of an idiot.
