Ward on Ravens game: 'We'll remember everything'

In today's edition of Sorting the Sunday Pile, we noted that Baltimore was highly motivated by last year's playoff lost to the Steelers. So motivated, in fact, that Jim Harbaugh and the Ravens decided to rub things in a bit, scoring on a fake extra point/two-point conversion, despite being up three touchdowns.

They also kept chunking the ball around with less than two minutes to go and up a lot of points. Predictably, this did not sit well with the Steelers, who plan to remember the Ravens actions, according to Hines Ward.

"It leaves a taste in your mouth," Ward said, via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "The 2-point conversion [when the Ravens led, 27-7]. The passing at the end ...

"We'll remember everything."

Look, as Ryan and I said on the podcast, if you don't want someone to score on you, stop them. This is true in every game, but especially so in a rivalry game where there's so much hatred between the two sides.

And I'm with colleague Clark Judge (and, as you'll see below, Jim Nantz and Phil Simms) on the fact that the biggest storyline of this game is actually the emergence of the inexplicably hated-in-Baltimore Joe Flacco.

And it kind of stinks for the Ravens to have the rivalry storyline outweigh the importance of his first win in a head-to-head matchup with Ben Roethlisberger.

But what puzzles me the most is that the Ravens would waste an absolute lock of a two-point conversion on the home opener when they're up a ton of points. That's the sort of play that wins you a game later in the year if executed correctly.

Maybe the Ravens had designs on using it all along on Sunday, and maybe they wouldn't try to pull it off in a close game (why not?) and maybe Jim Harbaugh just wanted to kick the Steelers in the ribs while they were already lying unconscious on the turf at M&T Bank Stadium.

Any one of those is fine, and I have no problem with the sportsmanship issue. I just think it's stupid to get in a fistfight with a bear, knock said bear to the ground, and then stand there poking it with a stick for a few hours.

Ward on Ravens game: 'We'll remember everything'

This has got to be one of the most self indulgent delusions I have ever read. Hell, I'm a Steeler fan too , possibly long before you were conceived, but for you to say that Baltimore fans blame others, I have to disagree. This is true in any fan passionate sport, but I swear my amazingly uninformed friend, that I can honestly attest that our fans are not only truly the worst whiners I have ever heard, but they have the reputation as the biggest whiners and blamers on the other guys around the nation, and this article of yours just verifies it again as it has little class or acceptance that we simply got our backsides kicked, and nothing to do with the article where my man Hines, says, We'll remember".  Hah, He might wish to start remembering his own very poor performance as he cut all his routes short and then got laid out by some nobody nerd landing his butt in the dirt before his feet hit.  He should start remembering to play Steeler football and shut up and accept the simple fact that this was a blow out that should not have occurred.

I watch these games with friends of mine from different parts of the country and we love to read the chat section and the comments people make, and each time after a flag is thrown on the Steekers, they shout "Here we go!"  just waiting for the barage of sniveling comments about how the game is fixed etc.  They think we are quite entertaining little children.  Now most of the time our Steeler players show a lot of class win or lose even if the fans don't, but their behavior in that game should have been embarrassing to you,  as it was that Baltimore not only whooped us good, but showed total class in doing it and kept their cool.  If you are angry with their fans, holy heck, what does that mean from our side except you verify that hypocritical little speech you just gave for no sake other than to pout.  Stop embarrassing us with that crap.

Hey, I'll admit the Ravens deserved to win Sunday but I could just say "the Steelers would've won if it wasn't for all the turnovers. We gave them the game. Oh, and the refs missed a bunch of chop blocks on Hampton." That's the kind of crap we hear in Baltimore every year when the Ravens don't get it done. Heck maybe the Steelers should just petition the league to have to never play another season opener in Baltimore.

Well looky here...it's Taylor and his whine festival.

The Ravens did deserve to win.

The Steelers would have won if, blah blah blah. They would have won if they scored more points then the Ravens.

You gave us the game? Duh.....that usually happen when you commit 7 turnovers

Petition the league....Maybe they should just try and play some good football instead of having their fans whimpering and whining when they lose. You guys support the BLACK and GOLD?

With all the whining and crying I'd have sworn it was pink and yellow.

LOL!
I love Baltimore fans. When the Ravens lose it's always not that the other team beat them but that they had turnovers, were too conservative, the refs did it, etc. etc.

This was a trap game and the Steelers played it.
If I'm a Baltimore fan I'd be pretty upset with Harbaugh. He damn near got Flacco killed at the end of the game while passing with a huge lead. What a moron.
If this result is because of age and slowness, then heck I understand why perfectly. The Steelers have been PLAYING IN SUPER BOWLS three of the last six years. That's quite a few extra games. What have the Ravens been doing again?

Since when is Flacco hated in Baltimore?  After years of putting up with the likes of Scott Mitchell, Tony Banks, and Kyle Boller, I'll take Flacco any day.  And the two point conversion was not rubbing it in; only 21 seconds had elapsed in the 2nd half.  Now Pittsburgh would need to score 4 times or get a 2 pointer of their own to catch the Ravens.  After last year's playoff meltdown in which a 14-point lead evaporated almost instantly, Harbaugh wasn't taking any chances.

Let me say this.....The Ravens beat the Steelers in that playoff game last year just like they beat them Sunday and will again beat them in Pittsburgh in November. I think the Ravens mistakes that happened last year will not be repeated this year and look at is this way the Ravens have scored a bunch of points on the Steelers 2 games in a row. The difference now is the defense will pound them into submission. The Steelers may not turn the ball over next time like they did this time but they will allow points and they will get pounded again so I say to you Hines Ward you better get used to it. The Steelers are getting old and they show it. Ben is not mobile when Suggs is on the field. Defeat is apparent and will continue to be. I say this to Steelers fans talk about the past like you always do because the future is bleak.....

Yeah I dont know where they get the hated in baltimore. We have dorky Wacco for Flacco shirts and if you see the guy out you see peoples eyes light up.. We have been behind him since day one. Its the national media that still doesnt believe in him. We always did and will continue to support him and be happy he is here. Maybe you dont remember we had to sit and watch Kyle Boller play for 6 yrs.. Just go to the stadium when they play the jets and see how they cheer when his face is up on the big screen. Go to a signing and see the lines. Theres no doubt this article has it wrong.
