Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher was dominating in his Week 1 performance against the Falcons. He recorded an interception and returned a fumble for a touchdown as Chicago rolled Atlanta, 30-12.

On Wednesday, Urlacher was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week, but the linebacker won't be with the team for several days and may not be available when the Bears face the Saints Sunday.

According to a statement from the team, Urlacher's mother passed away unexpectedly.

"My first priority right now is to be with my family as we mourn her loss and make the arrangements to lay her to rest," Urlacher said. "This is a very difficult and emotional time for us and I sincerely ask that you respect our privacy. Thank you."

Thoughts and prayers go out to Urlacher and his family.

Brian Urlacher's mother dies unexpectedly

What does your religious ranting have to do with the poor guy's mom passing away.  I'm OFFENDED that you chose this story to be your bully pulpit to preach to people.  Take your right-wing Christian conservatism and go pray to God yourself--dont try to force it onto others with scare tactics.

Brian Urlacher's mother dies unexpectedly

Death can happen at any time, the question is what happens after you die. The Bible said that it is appointed for a man to die once and after that face the judgement. On your Judgement Day, you will be giving an account of your life of every thought, word, and deed.

Do you think you are a good person? If so, how many lies have you told in your life? Have you ever stolen anything? How many times have you looked with lust at someone? If you have done all of that, then by your own admission you are a liar, a thief, adulterer at heart.

If you were to stand before God and if he were to judge you by that standard of the 10 commandments he would find you guilty and send you to Hell. Hell is a real place of eternal (which means forever) punishment for those who have broken God's law.

That might sound like bad news, but there is good news as well. 2000 years ago God sent his only son, Jesus Christ, into the world. Jesus was fully God and fully man and he lived the perfect, sinless life that you and I could not live. 33 years into his earthly existence, he volentarily went to the cross. He died a horrible death on the cross so that the punishment for sin could be paid.

The Bible says that without the shedding of blood, there is no remission for sin. 3 days after He died, he rose again for ever conquering sin and death. All you have to do is repent, that means turn from your sin and turn to God. Also you ned to put your trust in the finished work of Jesus Christ. Put your trust in the finished work of Christ like you put your trust in a seatbelt which saves you in a car accident.

Please think about these things while you still have time, because there is nothing more important than your eternal salvation.

Brian Urlacher's mother dies unexpectedly

My prayers go out to Urlacher and his family.

On another note Zeb Booker is the same troll with a different screen name posing as an Eagles fan. Probably the same clown that says the same crap when someone dies or gets hurt on all the other posts. This clown isnt an Eagles fan but sadly the majority of you fall for it.

Brian Urlacher's mother dies unexpectedly

My dad died this year as well, but it was expected at 94 1/2.....do what you have to do and let your heart guide you...
if your mother would have wanted you to play, that should be your guiding light...sure the team will wear a black band,
or whatever the league will allow as a rememberance of your and the Bear's loss....farve chose to play the week his dad
died and he exploded in his momentous return....good luck and God Bless you and your family, and the Bear family...

Brian Urlacher's mother dies unexpectedly

Thought's and prayers to Brian and his family.  As a fan of the NFL, and especially those like Urlacher who give everything they've got every Sunday, I reflect that football is a diversion.  It is our weekly escape from reality.  Right now reality hits hard for one of the best in the game.  My best to not only Brian and his family but also to all those less famous who have recently lost their loved ones.

My deepest sympathies to one of the best in the NFL.  I know your mom had to be proud to watch you play one of your best games last Sunday......dedicate this season to Mrs. Urlacher....rest in peace.
