Sapp says Steelers are 'old, slow and itís over'

Tonight at 9 p.m. ET on Showtime -- one of the many wonderful properties owned by the mothership -- "Inside the NFL" will, as usual, go inside the world of professional football.

And Warren Sapp, as usual, will have a spin on things that's going to offend a few folks. In this instance, I'll go out on a limb and say the Steelers won't be loving what he has to say, as he basically leaves the Pittsburgh football dynasty for dead.

"The Pittsburgh Steelers. I have three things: old, slow and it’s over," Sapp says. "It’s just that simple. James Harrison told us that he was 70-to-75 percent. It looked more like 40 percent to me if you are looking at the ballgame I was looking at. And Hines Ward, Mercedes Sapp can cover Hines Ward right now. You have to be kidding me ... Mercedes is my 13-year-old daughter. She will cover Hines Ward in a heartbeat.

"And Troy Polamalu, Ed Dixon runs this crossing route. Troy Polamalu is trying to grab him to have a pass interference and he can’t even get close enough to grab him. [It] looked like he was dragging a wagon behind him. Touchdown Baltimore. Pittsburgh Steelers done."

Them, as we say in the South, is fightin' words. And while Sapp has a point about the problems that plauged the Steelers in Week 1 against Baltimore, I'd probably lean more towards Phil Simms' take on things.

"That’s a tremendous over-reaction to Week One," Simms says.

Look, the Steelers looked downright dreadful as Baltimore was beating them up and down the field in every aspect of the game. But lots of teams have looked bad in the first week of the season and then circulated right back around to have good seasons.

This is especially true of teams that turn the ball over seven times in the first week of the season. That's not on Harrison, that's not on Polamalu, and I'm not even sure it's really on Ward.

Most importantly, though, is the fact that just last year, this was an AFC Championship-winning team. They are most certainly older, but they are not dead just yet. In fact, if anything they're a motivated giant that might not be sleeping anymore.

Sapp says Steelers are 'old, slow and itís over'

I would like to say that Sapp is right. But it's only week 2. The Steelers still have plenty of time to right the ship. They looked old and slow against the Ravens but to say it's over it premature. The steelers can still post a winning record and grab a playoff spot with their schedule. If they look as bad against the seahawks, then it might be safe to say that it's over.

Sapp says Steelers are 'old, slow and itís over'

Sapp didn't get his job by evaluating talent.  Absolutely, the Steelers looked and played awfully.  But his comment means they might as well go play golf for the rest of the season, and just forfeit.  "It's over."  Let's wait maybe even 2 weeks into the season before we start naming our playoff brackets, O.K.?

Sapp says Steelers are 'old, slow and itís over'

Boy has he changed his tune!  On the NFL Network on Sunday he jumped out of his chair and called Harrison his "hunter" and that Harrison would rip apart thr Ravens O-line.  Don't talk out of both sides of your mouth Warren!  This Ravens fan knows we stil have to go to Pittsburgh in Nov. and it will be a different game I am sure...and then there is always the playoffs.

If you have an opinion on Sunday stick with it later in the week and just say you underestimated a team...don't start swimming the other direction.

Shut up old, slow & fat Warren Sapp. It`s one game, if you have 7 turnovers you lose. Yes getting drilled by the Ravens makes me worry, but it`s not like the early 80`s Steelers dynasty that was at the end of the line. They`ll get right by spanking the sorry Seasicks just like they did to them in the Super Bowl a few years ago. Anyone who wants to cry about that game just donate your $ to the Matt Haselbeck is a "really good QB" fund. The Steelers will re-group nad make the playoffs.

Sapp says Steelers are 'old, slow and itís over'

Although it's an overreaction to a horrible game, everything he said was right. Polamalu looked helpless trying to cover on that play, The defense was slow and powerless, the offense looked like they couldn't wait to get back to the sideline...I personally think it was one of those games that just goes badly (see GB v Det last year) and it most likely means not too much. However, If they have another lackluster effort coming up here you can bet there will be a rush of people jumping on Warren Sapp's bandwagon of thought

Agree completely about their defense and Hines Ward.....Big Ben, Mendenhall, and their younger receivers are the highlights here now. C'mon, this defense made Flacco look like a top 3 QB. Look at their last two games (Ravens,Packers)..Polamalu has done absolutely NOTHING. They'll still be tough against the run, but any top-15 QB should be picking this team apart. HATE the Steelers so I'm happy about this. They're going to regret that Polamalu contract real soon.

Sapp says Steelers are 'old, slow and itís over'

I'll start by saying I hate the Steelers! That being said I won't bet against them. This could come down to the Age Vs. Experience battle we often see. Gotta remember that this was week one and there is still a lot of time.

Sapp says Steelers are 'old, slow and itís over'

I have to agree with Sapp on this one.

Rewatch the Superbowl against the Packers and they were beaten by a younger and faster team.  The Steeler D couldn't keep up.  That showed even more in week 1 against Baltimore which is also a younger and faster team.

Don't get me wrong, they are still a great team.  But they've lost the edge they've had since 2007/2008.
