Sapp says Steelers are 'old, slow and itís over'

Tonight at 9 p.m. ET on Showtime -- one of the many wonderful properties owned by the mothership -- "Inside the NFL" will, as usual, go inside the world of professional football.

And Warren Sapp, as usual, will have a spin on things that's going to offend a few folks. In this instance, I'll go out on a limb and say the Steelers won't be loving what he has to say, as he basically leaves the Pittsburgh football dynasty for dead.

"The Pittsburgh Steelers. I have three things: old, slow and it’s over," Sapp says. "It’s just that simple. James Harrison told us that he was 70-to-75 percent. It looked more like 40 percent to me if you are looking at the ballgame I was looking at. And Hines Ward, Mercedes Sapp can cover Hines Ward right now. You have to be kidding me ... Mercedes is my 13-year-old daughter. She will cover Hines Ward in a heartbeat.

"And Troy Polamalu, Ed Dixon runs this crossing route. Troy Polamalu is trying to grab him to have a pass interference and he can’t even get close enough to grab him. [It] looked like he was dragging a wagon behind him. Touchdown Baltimore. Pittsburgh Steelers done."

Them, as we say in the South, is fightin' words. And while Sapp has a point about the problems that plauged the Steelers in Week 1 against Baltimore, I'd probably lean more towards Phil Simms' take on things.

"That’s a tremendous over-reaction to Week One," Simms says.

Look, the Steelers looked downright dreadful as Baltimore was beating them up and down the field in every aspect of the game. But lots of teams have looked bad in the first week of the season and then circulated right back around to have good seasons.

This is especially true of teams that turn the ball over seven times in the first week of the season. That's not on Harrison, that's not on Polamalu, and I'm not even sure it's really on Ward.

Most importantly, though, is the fact that just last year, this was an AFC Championship-winning team. They are most certainly older, but they are not dead just yet. In fact, if anything they're a motivated giant that might not be sleeping anymore.

Sapp says Steelers are 'old, slow and itís over'

The Steelers are too talented and have too much pride not to bounce back from this loss.
I have to agree with this statement completely. Plus look at the Steelers schedule. The Steelers and Ravens will make the playoffs.

Warren Sapp had to have been drinking or on drugs. Maybe to many hits to the head is making him talk nonsense.

The Steelers defense was on the field a lot thanks to all the turnovers that may have contributed to them being a little gassed.

Thanks Sapp for pissing off the Steelers defense. I feel bad for the teams that have to play them the next couple of weeks.

Sapp says Steelers are 'old, slow and itís over'

Sapp needs to look in the mirror.  He's the one that is "old, slow, and over".  He did give coach Tomlin some great billboard material.  Thanks!

Sapp says Steelers are 'old, slow and itís over'

I love how post week one overreaction and panic mode sets in every year after a tough loss. The steelers are still an elite afc team. With the exception of another game with baltimore and a matchup with NE, the Steelers may have the easiest schedule in the league. I remember reading all the same mullarkey about the Jets after they lost to the pats 45-3 last year and we saw what happened in the playoffs when it counted. Sapp is an idiot. The Steelers are too talented and have too much pride not to bounce back from this loss.

Sapp says Steelers are 'old, slow and itís over'

I don't totally agree with the Sappster but he does have a point, the way the Steelers played on Sunday they did look old and slow but it was the first game, maybe a little superbowl hangover? Weird off season? Or the fact that there defensive leader, J Harrison isn't 100%. Put this game in week 6-7 you see a different outcome maybe not the winner of the game but it wouldnt be a total A*S kicking! Do I think the Steelers are superbowl bound, NO but they are not a 5-11 team as some have stated, they still have some have a solid team.

Sapp says Steelers are 'old, slow and itís over'

As I see it it was every teams first game. The Squeelers ARE getting older and they looked tired!! The Ravens are ALSO a team with some age on it. The difference the Ravens came and dominated! It's time to get off the first game, we're not concerned, hype!!
However, Ozzie brought in youth to supplement the experience of Lewis and Reed. He also took his time, too much for some of the fans, and brought in McKinnie and Gurode. More experience and proven talent. Time they say marches on, and the Steelers need to make adjustments to their team to stay at the top.

Sapp says Steelers are 'old, slow and itís over'

Warren Sapp is a moron. I am no Steelers fan but it was only week 1 for crying out loud. How he get hired in the first place is beyond me. I couldnt stand the guy as a player and I cant stand him even more as an an analyist. Fire this clown already.

Sapp says Steelers are 'old, slow and itís over'

As a Raven fan I can tell Sapp that he is mistaken saying that about the Steelers. I can say that I do not like the
Steelers one bit however there is no team that Ravne fans respect as much as the Steelers. We always know what
they can do and have done. Don't get me wrong, the win was a wonderful day but don't you see, we know what happens when these two teams meet. Ice tube and aches on both sides. It seems that there are haters outside of the AFC North that look down on our teams for the style they bring. Sapp is disgruntled that he does not play anymore and wants to be like R. Harrison.

AFC North rules!

Sapp says Steelers are 'old, slow and itís over'

Simms nails it- btw- Sapp may have money on the Steelers to win the championship again! A little future bet on the AFC crown!- I'm not saying he's angry b/c they looked so shitty vs Balt- I think he's smarter than what he said- sure they are gettin old, but you dont go from Super Bowl to crutches in 9 months when Brady, Manning and the Jet's D were in the mix- Sapp isnt that stupid- at the very least, he's throwing Simms a bone. I bet he's got a futures bet on the Steelers and he knows they're a "corkboard" motivated-like team- he's doing what he can to pull his weight after the football grave! Haha

11-5? No.
5-11? No.
Pittsburgh will probably be 9-7 or 10-6. No better than that.
They are a *decent* team, not an AFC elite.
This is not last year, I don't care that they were in the SB last year. They are definitely looking older.
They can still play and will get some wins, but they won't be in the top 3 or 4 of the AFC.
