Brian Urlacher returns to Halas Hall Thursday

Brian Urlacher's mother suddenly passed on Wednesday afternoon. You could understand if he didn't want to return to work right away.

But according to multiple reports, the Bears star linebacker is already back at Halas Hall, presumably to practice on Thursday.

Urlacher's presence is, frankly, stunning, because of the tragic circumstances surrounding his life in the last 24 hours. It's also no guarantee that Urlacher will end up playing on Sunday against the Saints -- memorial services for his mother have yet to be planned.

And perhaps it's simply a situation that many athletes face, where going back to work and immersing yourself in your job makes things easier to tune out.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with the Urlacher family during this difficult time.

Brian Urlacher returns to Halas Hall Thursday

Each person chooses to grieve in their own way.  Don't judge others.  Urlacher has 50 guys around him who will give support and friendship.  He obviously got support from his family to play on Sunday, otherwise he would not do so.  No one criticized Favre when he played after losing his father - so let the man play the game with whatever emotions he's feeling.

What a joke...can't even pay his mother the respect she deserves. What kind of son are you? Yesterday you were looking you are a fool. How can you belittle your mother this way? I hope she haunts you with guilt.
You have no idea the situation of fer death.  Ever thought that Brian told his mother he loved her everyday of his life, or that he, she , and his father all had complete closure with her life and death?  If my mother died today I would be sad, but would have no closure issues what so ever, due to the fact that we talk regularly about whatever we want.  If I was so lucky to be talented enough to play pro football I can assure you that my father and family members would WANT me to get back to the team and go on with life not sit around.  Maybe your beleifs do not give you assurance of where your mothers spirit/soul go after death, but maybe he does, so he is at peace with her death.  My beleifs allow me that comfort for a fact.  So please give him and his family the respect they deserve at the time in their lives.

I have nothing but my condolaces to offer the Urlacher family.

Wow..  We have some real haters on here. 98% of you hate your job, and most likely hate the people that work there. When you are part of a team of some type, you build a bond with the other guys. When someone close to you dies, the easiest way to deal with it is to go back to what you like to do and most importantly get back with the guys you do it with. You can all say family blah blah blah, but the fact of the matter in some jobs your teammates or co workers know more about you then your family does. So I pity the guy that has enough time to sit behind a computer and bash one of the top middle linebackers in the league... because guess what? He is making a crap ton more money then you are, and likes to do his job. How many people get to crush someone and make millions doing it? Clearly not the guy sitting behind the computer writing messages about how bad of a son he is.

Best wishes to Brain Urlacher and his family for the loss of his mother and it's great to see the big guy back to the Bears team already.

Wow over 7 pages of comments over Brian Urlachers mother dying. Kind of amazing when ya think about it.
Some of them are actually quite amazing in their stupidity.

Maybe he should of stayed longer. Maybe his mother was sick for awhile and he said his goodbyes. Maybe his family asked him to go back home and they would take care of the arrangements. Maybe he'll go back afterward and distribute her ashes at a later date. Maybe not. How about this:

My condolences Brian, whatever you decide and best wishes.  This message board just reminds me of how many low class assholes are out in the world. Unreal
