Brian Urlacher's mother suddenly passed on Wednesday afternoon. You could understand if he didn't want to return to work right away.

But according to multiple reports, the Bears star linebacker is already back at Halas Hall, presumably to practice on Thursday.

Urlacher's presence is, frankly, stunning, because of the tragic circumstances surrounding his life in the last 24 hours. It's also no guarantee that Urlacher will end up playing on Sunday against the Saints -- memorial services for his mother have yet to be planned.

And perhaps it's simply a situation that many athletes face, where going back to work and immersing yourself in your job makes things easier to tune out.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with the Urlacher family during this difficult time.

What a joke...can't even pay his mother the respect she deserves. What kind of son are you? Yesterday you were looking humble..today you are a fool. How can you belittle your mother this way? I hope she haunts you with guilt.

Brian Urlacher returns to Halas Hall Thursday

Another idiot making an unnecessary comment about a situation that really has nothing to do with football and who will win. Another class act fan in GeauxSaints.

Brian Urlacher returns to Halas Hall Thursday

Wow...alot of talk from a Taint Fan, please remember that your team could not get to the Superbowl whenever you needed to come through Chicago...i agree that he is in the declining years but he still is the heart and soul of the bears defense, and in my opinion he still is a better player now than Vilma currently is...piss on that!

Brian Urlacher returns to Halas Hall Thursday

People may say that Urlacher is overrated but they wouldn't have the balls to say it to his face or stand in his way.  The fact that he lost his mother and came back to work so quickly shows that he is a total team player and a leader.  He's practicing and will play on Sunday because his teammates need him as much as he needs them.  Show some respect and pray for him and his family in this very difficult time.  A lot of athletes wouldn't have the heart and soul to return and do what he's doing.

Brian Urlacher returns to Halas Hall Thursday

Brian Urlacher is the most over-rated player in the NFL right now.  It won't make a difference if he plays or not.  And if you're a Bears fan heading to the Dome for this game, bring a rain coat. Saints fans are full of piss and vinegar and it'll literally be coming your way!!!

I dont think anyone would blame him if he wanted to take a game off to be w/ his family/friends
