Brian Urlacher's mother suddenly passed on Wednesday afternoon. You could understand if he didn't want to return to work right away.

But according to multiple reports, the Bears star linebacker is already back at Halas Hall, presumably to practice on Thursday.

Urlacher's presence is, frankly, stunning, because of the tragic circumstances surrounding his life in the last 24 hours. It's also no guarantee that Urlacher will end up playing on Sunday against the Saints -- memorial services for his mother have yet to be planned.

And perhaps it's simply a situation that many athletes face, where going back to work and immersing yourself in your job makes things easier to tune out.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with the Urlacher family during this difficult time.

Brian Urlacher returns to Halas Hall Thursday

I am a huge Bears fan and of course from the fan's point of view I would love to see Urlacher play and help the Bears beat up on the Saints!!!  However, no job is more important than family and Urlacher should be given as much time as he needs to cope with the passing of his mother.  Now, if he finds that playing football helps him cope with his current situation then I fully support that too!  I just don't like see any pressure on a person to come back sooner than he is ready for because when you think about it: yes, football is a business and yes, we all love it as fans, but it is nothing compared to a loved one...something that is trully important in this life.

Sorry to hear that about his Mom..... Bottom line is this: Doesn't matter if he plays on Sunday or not. The man is a TRUE champion just for returning to work so quickly. I'm sure it's to help him deal with the pain, but nonetheless it's definitely inspiring.. Hang in there Brian, you and your family are most certainly in our thoughts and prayers!!

Brian Urlacher returns to Halas Hall Thursday

Thoughts and prayers go out to Brian and his family. What makes this worse is the fact that his mother passed unexpectedly and with that, the grieving process is different because he is probably in shock more than anything else. Urlacher, if he does play, will do so eith a very heavy heart. This could be a blessing or a curse given the circumstances.
