Brian Urlacher returns to Halas Hall Thursday

Brian Urlacher's mother suddenly passed on Wednesday afternoon. You could understand if he didn't want to return to work right away.

But according to multiple reports, the Bears star linebacker is already back at Halas Hall, presumably to practice on Thursday.

Urlacher's presence is, frankly, stunning, because of the tragic circumstances surrounding his life in the last 24 hours. It's also no guarantee that Urlacher will end up playing on Sunday against the Saints -- memorial services for his mother have yet to be planned.

And perhaps it's simply a situation that many athletes face, where going back to work and immersing yourself in your job makes things easier to tune out.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with the Urlacher family during this difficult time.

Brian Urlacher returns to Halas Hall Thursday

I have never liked Urlacher as a player.  He is a good LB but I've always thought he was a bit over rated.  But getting back to work during this difficult time really says a lot about his character.  Gotta love that blue collar working style.  You just don't see that much anymore.

Brian Urlacher returns to Halas Hall Thursday

theres no issue with Brians toughness or heart, my issue is with the writer that doesnt even know what day she passed, I have to wonder if it was deliberate or incompetent. God bless the Urlacher family

Brian Urlacher returns to Halas Hall Thursday

Wow!  Not only is Urlacher tough on the field, but it appears he's even more potent mentally.  May peace be with you in this hectic time, mister Urlacher.

to clarify I wasn't suggesting that anyone who posted on THIS story before me had made those claims. Speaking more in general than anything. Sorry for the confusion.

Brian Urlacher returns to Halas Hall Thursday

Sorry for the loss, and wondering why such an obvious error was made (Wednesday Vs. Monday). Am I suggesting that two days makes a difference? No, but I am saying that it paints a different picture. Not everyone grieves the same way it really isn't anyones place to judge or say he should or shouldn't be back. Just my opinion and I mean no disrespect but its his decision to make and I don't think anyone should question it. Again just my opinion.

I am sure he is using his job/sport to cope but he is the true example of a hard working captain!

Brian Urlacher returns to Halas Hall Thursday

Note to reporter....Brian Urlacher's mother passed away Monday, not Wednesday.  It really doesn't matter only in that he had been gone for a few days and returned on Thursday.  It does make him seem more humane than just coming back to work the day after her death.  I am sure his mother would have wanted him to return and play, and then possibly be there to help with her burial or creamation sometime next week.  Thoughts and prayers to Brian and his family.  He is truly a leader and fine representative of the Bears organization.  But hey, let's get the basic facts correct on this story!!!

Returning to work may be the best way for him to deal with it, everyone handles personal tragedy differently.

My thoughts and prayers are with him.
