Tony Romo leaves with fractured rib, returns

Update (6:20 p.m. ET): Romo has a fractured rib. So naturally, he's back in the game. That's what happens when Kitna bookends a score with a pair of picks and the Cowboys find themselves staring 0-2 in the face.

There are five words that Cowboys fans fear more than anything else in the world: "Jon Kitna is under center."

That's what's happening for Dallas right in San Francisco, though, as Tony Romo has left the game against the 49ers with an injury to his ribs. As our Cowboys Rapid Report Nick Eatman notes, Romo "stayed in the locker room after halftime getting evaluation on the rib injury" and then "returned to the locker room for another look at his rib injury at the start of the third quarter."

Regardless, though, it's not good -- Romo is hurt, Dez Bryant is already out, the Cowboys secondary is limited and they can't establish a running game.

On the bright side, though Kitna threw an interception early in the second half, he rallied to tie the game at 14 with just under seven minutes remaining in the third quarter.

And there's always the "good news" that the Cowboys are playing the 49ers. A more talented team might not afford Dallas the luxury of staying in the game with Kitna taking snaps.

If he really wanted to win, he'd hire a GM. He should be sick of losing by now. I know I am.

Live stream of NFL games

Could someone explain to me why NBC is the only station that will stream a live NFL game on the net? I don't understand why CBS & ESPN will stream college games free, but not the NFL. This is frustrating for someone who is trying to save money & ditched cable. Please CBS, FOX, ESPN, stream NFL games for free!

I think you forgot who brought them the last 3 Superbowl trophys.  You may not like him but he is always trying to win.  He certainly makes questionable decisions and meddles in the team more than most owners but wouldn't you if you owned them?

Actually Kitna is among the better backup QBs as he helped rally last year's team yo a 5-3 2nd half under new coach Garrett. This game had a terrific finish (unless you are a 9ers fan.) Romo did return and lead the team to victory in OT.

This is a work in progress year for Dallas with a depleted secondary and a very young line they are going to have to overachiev to win. Garrett seems like he is doing the right things in his first HC job. But the ups and downs will be hard on the Coowboys faithful.
