On Sunday, both Tom Brady and Ben Roethlisberger took some terrifying hits to the knee -- Roethlisberger's was more serious, but Brady's was reminiscent of the Bernard Pollard hit in 2008 that ended Brady's season.

The gentlemen responsible for those hits -- Antonio Garay and Raheem Brock, respectively -- were fined $15,000 each by the NFL on Thursday. Adam Schefter of ESPN first reported the fines.

"I'm glad I had a knee brace on," Brady said earlier this week on the Dennis and Callahan show on WEEI, via the Boston Herald. "That’s scary when you’ve been through those before. It got me in a good spot, and I’m glad the knee brace took the brunt of the force. Why I never wore a knee brace before, I have no idea. Why every quarterback doesn’t wear one on their left knee, I have no idea, to be able to withstand those."

Brady called the knee injury "The Carson Palmer Rule" -- he pointed out that he has his own rule, which involves tucking and should never be mentioned while touring around the city of Oakland -- as Palmer was knocked out for the year by the Steelers with a knee injury in the playoffs way back in 2005.

It was Pittsburgh's Roethlisberger, though, who appeared to suffer a similar fate Sunday. Ben was hit from behind by Brock and lay on the ground in pain, eventually returning to the game before limping to the locker room at halftime.

Apparently Roethlisberger is fine, and will require no knee brace this Sunday.

Derrick Morgan got nailed with a $7,500 fine for a late hit on Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco Sunday -- Morgan was flagged for unnecessary roughness at the time, after Flacco fumbled the ball, recovered it on the ground and was touched by a different Titans player just before Morgan hit Flacco.

The defensive end plans to appeal the fine and said that a Ravens offensive lineman even told him the penalty was a bit much. Don't expect anything similar for Brock or Garay, who put the season of two of the NFL's most-popular quarterbacks in jeopardy.

daddy2fat

Either you use pom poms or your avatar name says it all.
Qb's are getting paid millions to stand back and not get touched. I love how your all for the protection of qb's yet there is no extra protection for the rb who has to run into these low , high and blind side hits. What about thier knees? ( not that I want more bs hitting rules)

Your argument about size is actually ignorant. I agree that d. linemen are now bigger and faster than they use to be but I have some news for you, so are the o. linemen and qb's. ( Big Ben ). Your argument reflects only the evolution of defensive size. Crazy right lol.

It's a mans game and it should be just that. If you want to support Pop Warner then so be it but leave the NFL alone. At this rate you will have a no touch rule for qb's by year 2020.

the hit on roethlisberger was obviously not intentional, but please explain how it should not have been fined?
I'm totally cool with fining the player responsible for the play, but that player is not Brock.  If you believe a fine needs to be levied, it needs to go to the lineman who tripped him after getting beat off the line.  If Brock didn't get tripped, the outcome of the play would have likely been a sack or a knockdown, neither of which would have endangered Ben's knees.

Disagree with everyone ! Brokk was oviouslly triped therfore its not his fault why should he be fined. Also its football its getting rediclous you cant hit him high, u cant hit em low, u cant throw him to the ground. I mean there trying to make a saCC to prevent a pass play. U should be able to take him down anywhere. People seem to forget the reason these guys make 10 million a year is because football is dangerous, thats what fans like. This is not flag football in the baccyard. ITS THE NFL

Is the NFL supposed to have sportsmanship?

I thought this was supposed to be a game of tough hits, getting yelled and screamed at in the face and playing out in the hard rain on a muddy field.

I guess those days are over. Now it's "well you slammed the Quarterback into the ground, I guess you'll get a fine and penalized for it".

Brock should have broke his leg, karma for getting out of all those so called incidents. But really the travesty here is there was no penalty for tripping. The o-line man was clearly beat and stuck his foot out.
