Has NFL suspended Benson for 3 games? (US PRESSWIRE)
Posted by Ryan Wilson

Bengals running back Cedric Benson will face a three-game suspension for player-conduct violations that happened during the lockout, Yahoo.com's Mike Silver reported Thursday afternoon.

It's the first instance of the league punishing a player for something that took place during the four-month lockout. Interestingly, Aqib Talib, Kenny Britt and Brandon Marshall all had legal entanglements during that time but avoided NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell's wrath.

Benson, who was sentenced to 20 days in jail earlier this month for assaulting an Austin, Texas bartender in 2010, will appeal the suspension next Tuesday.

Silver adds that "If the appeal does not result in a reduction or elimination of the suspension, Benson would miss Cincy's games vs. Buffalo, Jacksonville and Indianapolis," though he would be available for the Bengals' game this Sunday against the 49ers.

Through two weeks, Benson has 41 carries for 180 yards (4.4 average) and he's scored a touchdown. He's also been invaluable to rookie quarterback Andy Dalton, who will now have to rely on running backs Brian Leonard (2 rushes, 15 yards) and Bernard Scott (6 rushes, 13 yards) if Benson's suspension is upheld.

In other Bengals-related news, players Jerome Simpson and Anthony Collins were questioned by authorities earlier this week after another person at Simpson's home signed for a delivery package that contained a 2.5-pound bag of high-grade marijuana from California.

Report: Cedric Benson gets 3-game suspension

Goodell makes these ridiculous punishments to infuriate fans, who then follow the story through the media and are exposed to countless advertisements, they buy the products they see in the advertisements, and everyone involved gets rich.

Are you serious?  Please, try to put a little more thought into what you're saying.

Your "infuriated" fans would not have heard this news had they not already been on this website to read the news, or were already watching ESPN, etc to hear the news.  Sports fans come to sites like CBS and watch stations like ESPN on a daily basis for any news, regardless of what it is, and are thus already exposed to any advertisements that may be there.  "Infuriated" fans don't become that way until after they've heard the news.

Goodell is a man who likes to make examples of players to send messages to the rest of the league.  There's nothing more to it than that.

Report: Cedric Benson gets 3-game suspension

So Benson is the only player that got in trouble during the off season and is going to be suspended for it?  That makes about as much sense as Michael Vick serving less time than Plaxico Burress and a ton of other people that never killed and tortured more defenseless animals than every single serial killer known to man in the past 40 years combined.  Also people need to stop saying get over it, because the guy is a psychotic scum bag that only served 14 months in jail and 2 months on home arrest for doing some of the most hanous things ever done to dogs in this country.  That's right, Dogs.  Animals that only live to love, protect and be in company of humans.  I hope he suffers severe brain damage if he plays this week, that or is paralyzed from the neck down.  All you hero worshipping low lifes that support him can join him too!

Spot on. This is precisely why I stopped watching these reality TV shows.  We all look at them and make fun of how stupid they are.  But, they don't care why you are watching because as long as you are watching, they profit.  Now ask yourself, who's the mack?

All the NFL cares about is money.  The best way to get money is through publicity.  Goodell makes these ridiculous punishments to infuriate fans, who then follow the story through the media and are exposed to countless advertisements, they buy the products they see in the advertisements, and everyone involved gets rich.  Very simple, very smart.  American politicians and businessmen have learned the trick that the easiest way to manipulate people is to appear stupid and incompetent, because the masses will always think they are smarter than them and never question their motives or results.  Who is dumber, the person or company making millions or billiions of dollars, or the person who constantly complains about someone or something, yet continually gives them money and support?

Well GoBucksBengals, you must be the idiot.  At the top of this post, Ryan Wilson is listed as the author. You couldn't see that?  Then you write "They are an idiot."  One person isn't "they".  Finally, you write that Benson didn't go to jail for beating up his roommate but for beating up a bartender. That is exactly what the post reported.  If you have any athletic skills, you've shown that you have the stupidity to qualify as a Bungels player. Are you smoking the reefer that another Bungels player just bought?
