Has NFL suspended Benson for 3 games? (US PRESSWIRE)
Posted by Ryan Wilson

Bengals running back Cedric Benson will face a three-game suspension for player-conduct violations that happened during the lockout, Yahoo.com's Mike Silver reported Thursday afternoon.

It's the first instance of the league punishing a player for something that took place during the four-month lockout. Interestingly, Aqib Talib, Kenny Britt and Brandon Marshall all had legal entanglements during that time but avoided NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell's wrath.

Benson, who was sentenced to 20 days in jail earlier this month for assaulting an Austin, Texas bartender in 2010, will appeal the suspension next Tuesday.

Silver adds that "If the appeal does not result in a reduction or elimination of the suspension, Benson would miss Cincy's games vs. Buffalo, Jacksonville and Indianapolis," though he would be available for the Bengals' game this Sunday against the 49ers.

Through two weeks, Benson has 41 carries for 180 yards (4.4 average) and he's scored a touchdown. He's also been invaluable to rookie quarterback Andy Dalton, who will now have to rely on running backs Brian Leonard (2 rushes, 15 yards) and Bernard Scott (6 rushes, 13 yards) if Benson's suspension is upheld.

In other Bengals-related news, players Jerome Simpson and Anthony Collins were questioned by authorities earlier this week after another person at Simpson's home signed for a delivery package that contained a 2.5-pound bag of high-grade marijuana from California.

I agree the Jags look awful, but you can't argue with me on the Bengals' personnel decisions.  Every year they have multiple players getting charged with stuff.  Look at Jerome Simpson.

O.G. Aqib Talib...

"After he was drafted in the spring of 2008 Talib was involved in a fight with fellow Tampa Bay rookie Cory Boyd at the NFL's Rookie Symposium during a budget and finances meeting in July.

In May 2009 he got into a fight with a teammate at a Tampa Bay minicamp and wound up hitting a peace-keeping player in the face with his helmet.

In August 2009 Talib was arrested in Florida and charged with simple battery and resisting arrest in connection with an alleged assault on a taxi driver. He was suspended by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, sitting out the 2010 season opener but still managed to intercept six passes before tearing a hip flexor and missing the final three games. As part of that case, Talib reached a monetary settlement with cab driver David Duggan to avoid a potential civil lawsuit, but was forced to perform 15 hours of community service and, last April, undergo eight hours of anger management before having the case dismissed in November.

And near the end of last season - after a heart-breaking loss to the Baltimore Ravens - Talib reportedly got into a cussing match with a referee and threatened to punch an official before being restrained by teammates."

And then this clown attempted to murder somebody in his hometown...

He gets into fistfights at work, at corporate meetings, attacks a hard-working middle class taxi driver for no reason, AND THEN attempts to murder somebody... and his punishment?  And Goodell wants to suspend Cedric Benson for getting into a bar fight... and he waits until 3 games into the season?  WOW.  Goodell is like a kid with ADD.

How in the heck is he getting punished (barring his appeal) and the other guys that had off the field issues during the lockout get nothing. Goodell is an idiot. Try and be a little fair. If I were Benson I would probably sue the NFL. Favoritism anyone?

Who wrote this artice????

They are an idiot. He DID NOT get sentenced to jail for 20 days for beating up his roommate. Click on the link and it will tell you he went to jail for beating up a bartender.

He's a criminal either way, but I am just saying. He hasn't even gone to court yet for beating up his roommate.

Where do the Bengals find these guys?  This must be how the Bengals scout players:

Can he run?  -Check
Can he catch? -Check
Is he a complete knucklehead who will no doubt have a ton of off field problems? -Check

Looks like he's Bengals material, sign him!

Wait until week three of the season?  Do nothing with Aqib Talib, who shot at somebody?

Nice to see Goodell's arbitrary Wheel o' Justice is still at work.
