Peyton Manning will miss 2011 season ... maybe

Peyton Manning will miss all of 2011 following the neck surgery that knocked him out thus far, Jim Irsay told Colts supporters at a Super Bowl breakfast on Monday morning.

We think -- Irsay hopped on Twitter shortly after the news surrounding his announcement and attempted to clarify the situation.

"I didn't say Peyton out 4season FOR SURE,keeping him on ActiveRoster n taking it month by month/Outside chance of return n December possible," Irsay tweeted Monday after the breakfast.

The news comes just a few hours after Pittsburgh put a painful dagger into Indianapolis' early season with a 23-20 win at the Colts Lucas Oil Field.

According to WISH-TV.com, Manning will not practice again until December of this season and "may not play again until 2012."

Heretofore, the Colts have declined to put Manning on Injured Reserve; they've said that they had no plans to do so until his full 2011 season was in jeopardy. And Irsay's tweet could be an indication that Indy will keep him off of IR for even longer, although it makes little-to-no sense to try and bring him back for what already appears to be a lost season.

This news is bad, of course, but it's also not that surprising -- the idea that Manning could come back and actually play again this season seemed far-fetched ever since the Colts confirmed his September surgery.

Recent reports that Manning traveled to Europe for stem-cell therapy before undergoing his September 8 neck procedure didn't help things and now we're right where we thought we'd be sans Manning: the Colts are struggling on a week-by-week basis to be competitive.

The good news, at least, is that they've admitted the need to monitor his health long term.

Peyton Manning will miss 2011 season ... maybe

peyton's career is finished. sure he'll come back next season, but he'll be an old 36 yrs.. 3 neck surgeries in barely 18 months?! he never had quick feet, but was always quick to throw the ball away or take a phantom sack rather than take a big hit. now, he'll be really scared knowing the next hit could put him in a wheel chair. i bet when/if he comes back he looks no better than jim everett did at 36. flinching in the pocket, chucking & ducking like he did in college and the first 7 yrs. of his NFL career. he's lucky he played rex grossman in the super bowl or he'd still be known as a chicken choker.

Or this Titans fan who is probably pissed about how the Colts have spanked his team for years now, and wants to vent his frustrations by being rude about a player who is injured. Stupid, childish, and ignorant.

Peyton Manning will miss 2011 season.. Hopefully!

Yeah... it's even worst listening to Peyton fans cry about him not playing than when he gets sacked on the field. I rather see him flatned than see all this that's going on right now. It's really lame. Collins... you messed out Titans up... thanks for passing on the tradition.

This shit is seriously rude and fucked up.

Peyton Manning unable to play = Jim Irsay uncovered as a clown.

Watch out Indianapolis ... a losing season might mean the Colts pack up in the middle of the night and head off to LA.

It's in Irsay's blood.
Redskins fan who must not realize that his team hasn't been very good for a few years either. How easy it is for some to point their fingers at others flaws, while turning a blind eye to their own.

I have this much to say for those of you who are reveling at the loss of Peyton Manning and the Colts struggles on the field. Grow up. You have no class and karma is a bitch. Would never wish on any player to get injured, and when players do get injured, you won't find me cheering about it and laughing and taking pot shots at the rest of the franchise.

Fact is the Indianapolis Colts are a very proud franchise, and they have a right to be. Peyton Manning is a very good player, and probably considered one of if not THE BEST to have ever played the game. Just to be thought of in that context says alot about his skills.

Also Peyton is a very generous and kind person off the field. He is a class act and a great role model to young kids. He unlike alot of other players in the league would give his time freely for underprivelaged youths and other charitable events.

To mock him for his injuries, to take a stab at the rest of the team and or the owner is simply classless and out of line. But I guess there are children who are members on CBSSPORTS.com.

classless little cry baby children...   When we repair our team with draft picks and other aquisitions look out for the Colts again. No one can forsee an injury like this. Peyton will be a great mentor for whatever QB they draft next year, and we will build upon our team and be contenders in the leage again.

Jim Irsay is not like his father, he likes it in Indy. We built him the stadium he wanted, and his team is loved and respected not just by residents of Indianapolis, but all of Indiana and much of the midwest.

Haters will hate only because they are jealous.

GO HORSE!!!!

WHY would the Colts risk damaging Manning rushing him back from surgery?
You have to figure by the time the timetable Irsay mentions comes up it'll be middle of December, they will have NOTHING to play for so WHY would you put him out there and endanger him?
Heck, what was it a couple of years ago when Caldwell didn't play Manning the last game of the season when they could have gone undefeated, if he didn't play him then why would you play him when you're out of it and have NOTHING to play for?
It's crazy, foolish & stupid or maybe the Colts know the team is lagging interest wise with Manning out and they're trying to hook people in with some false hope that he may be back at some point in the season.
It makes no sense, the guy has had 3 surgeries on his neck & stem cell treatment too which means the surgeries weren't giving the desired effect because why go to another course of treatment if what you've done is working?
Keep him shut down for the season, it's the wise thing to do and on top of that football isn't that important in the grand scheme of Peytons life and well being after football, just not worth it.

OHSTigers, my point is that it is time for the Colts to think of Manning's successor whether it is Luck or another prospect. They don't necessarily have to pick Luck but they need a qb. If the Colts only win 4-5 games this year they are going to be in the top 10 for the draft. They will definitely have a chance to pick a a good qb prospect. Collins was complete garbage last night. 13-29 for 93 yards? With those type of numbers I don't care how close a game is your team is almost guaranteed to lose. The Colts will be close in a lot of games this season but without a decent qb they are going to lose most of their games this year.  Their only hope this year is that Curtis Painter comes in and  plays better than Collins.

Why in the world would they even consider bringing him back in December?  They will have 3 wins at best, so what would be the point.  Let him heal the whole year and start fresh next year.  I don't think it takes a genius to figure this one out.

I'm sure Peyton wants to ride out in chariot. Time and gravity say different. Not only that, but the Colts will not be contenders again in two or three season Peyton might have left.
