Michael Vick injury is hand contusion, not break

Well, here's something new: Michael Vick's broken right hand isn't actually broken and instead a misread X-ray. Also new: something is going OK for the Eagles.

Yesterday, we wrote that Vick left the game against New York with a broken hand. What actually happened, according to Andy Reid at his press conference Monday afternoon, is that a swollen blood vessel was sitting on top of the hand bone and made it appear as if Vick suffered a fracture.

"Blood vessel sitting over the bone, made it look like there's a fracture," Reid said.

That's why the Eagles believed Vick broke his hand, although there's no real explanation for where the report on Monday morning about Vick missing three to four weeks with a broken hand came from.

It's tremendous news for Philadelphia, because it means that Vick, despite suffering a concussion in Week 2, should be OK to return as soon as this week, though it's possible that the contusion causes him to miss time if the swelling in his hand doesn't subside.

But as Clark Judge pointed out on Sunday night, losing Vick is the least of Philly's problems. They have a nightmare in terms of offensive line issues, and it's become quite obvious that all the free-agent signings in the world can't mask the defensive problems they have at linebacker and safety.

Also not helping? The Eagles upcoming three-game stretch -- versus the 49ers, at the Bills and at the Redskins -- went from "cakewalk" to "toughest stretch of their season" faster than Philly's offensive line can give up a quarterback pressure.

The dream team is fast becoming the nightmare team.
Proves once again that you can't "buy" Superbowl. Why don't people listen to the Redskins they are the authority on this approach and look how many Superbowls they have won since free agency started.

The interior of the offensive line is horrible (see their problems converting short yardage up the middle) and it isn't going to get better if Vick sits. In fact, it isn't going to get better at all. I'm disappointed in Reid who has in the past always focused on building a strong o-line.

That's great but at this point the question isn't whether he will start, it's whether he will finish.

I agree that Vick takes some hits that would have drawn flags if he had "Brady" or "Manning" sewn on the back of his jersey, but him ending up on his back is NOT the refs fault. I hope his offensive line took notice to his comments, because they're the ones that are ultimately at fault. Sure, if Vick runs out of the pocket, he can expect to get hit because HE chose to put himself in harms way. If he's CHASED out of the pocket, though, that's the O-lines bad...and they better realize that. My Eagles are totally unfocused. They need to sit Vick for a game or two and start concentrating on the other aspects of their game. Quit concentrating on Vick, Vick, Vick.
