Orakpo thinks Romo injury blown out of proportion

Orakpo: Romo injury overblown. (US PRESSWIRE)
Posted by Ryan Wilson

A week ago, a punctured lung and broken ribs couldn't keep Tony Romo from leading the Cowboys to an overtime win over the 49ers. On Monday night, Romo's legend grew with another gutsy performance against NFC East rival Washington.

But not everybody is impressed with Romo's threshold for pain. Take, for example, Redskins linebacker Brian Orakpo, who addressed the matter Tuesday during an appearance on John Thompson's radio show (quotes via the Sports Bog's Dan Steinberg).

“To me they blown it way out of proportion,” Orakpo said. “I mean, they tried to make it seem like the guy was hospitalized the night before the game, just so we could build it up if they was to win the game — oh he’s a courageous player to go out there and play. The guy was playing just like Tony Romo, running around, making throws. He got hit throughout the whole game and still getting up. I mean, it was blown way out of proportion, but it is what it is.”

Orakpo sounded even more perplexed at how Romo avoided a single turnover despite center Phil Costa's predilection for horribly mistimed snaps.

“I mean, Romo got some type of lucky charm in his back pocket,” Orakpo said. “Because it seemed like every time the ball was on the floor, he was able to scoop it up, not fumbling one time, scoop it up and pick it up and try to at least make a play. Very unfortunate for us. I mean, I’m so disappointed in the outcome. We left a lot on the table. We could have easily won that game.”

To be fair, the reason for the four botched snaps was because the Redskins were, you know, cheating. Surprised Orakpo didn't mention that during his diatribe.

Then again, Orakpo doesn't take issue with DeAngelo Hall's f-bomb-tastic post-game tirade, noting that Hall wishes "he could take it back, but I don’t blame him. He’s already a hothead, so why would you put a camera in his face?"

That's a fair point.

Lucky charm in his back pocket LOL. Tell that one to Detroit. Or the Jets. As far as the Skin's success this season, I'll borrow a quote from Bagger Vance... "Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every now & then."

Orakpo thinks Romo injury blown out of proportion

Bottom line is that Romo is overhyped and not worthy of the accolades.  Silly hack, wanna-be journalists are in love with the guy for some reason I can't figure out.  It sure isn't for winning big games because he's been a collosal bust in those.  Redskins are finally building something and soon enough we'll be in a position to win consistently.   Skins will win a Super Bowl before the Cowboys if Romo is the QB.  Romo is not a winner-he's had chances and failed big time with top flight talent on both sides of the ball.  Hype can't help Romo win.  He flat-out isn't good enough.  Maybe he should try golfing full-time.

Here we go again; Brian Orakpo gets a GEICO commercial and now we have to hear his opinion on everything. Yeah, the Cowboys got lucky; lucky they played a team that was too inept to capitalize on their myriad mistakes. If Orakpo had've made one decent play all game and not gone out with his own injury, or "cramps" as it were, then he could have something to say.

Oh, and why shove a camera in D-Hall's face? Because the guy is a train wreck on camera, that's why. And the masses love watching overinflated egos making idiots of themselves when they just lost a game.

If I were the Redskins management, I'd be concerned with this attitude. "He wasn't really hurt, they got lucky" and "That wasn't no facemask, the refs are out to get us, and the coaches shouldn't have called that play anyway."

How about some accountability, you idiots? How about "Wow, Dallas gave us every chance to win and we blew it. Big time. That's on us." Or "The coaches called the play, I had Dez Bryant, and I let him beat me on the most important play of the game. My bad."

Nope. Instead it's the classic North American idealism of finger pointing and blame absolution. Redskins will never win as long as they have attitudes like that; it's a recipe for defeat. Thankfully Hue Jackson seems to have eradicated the very real sense of the same in Oakland.

At least Romo has been good enough to get his team to the playoffs. How have the Redskins faired in the playoffs since Romo took over for Dallas in 2006? Oh that's right, they haven't made the playoffs. How many quarterbacks have the Redskins been through in that time?
