UPDATE (5:50 p.m. ET): We reached out to ESPN for comment and we were informed they are pulling the Hank Williams, Jr., intro from Monday Night Football's telecast for Monday's game between the Buccaneers and the Colts.

“While Hank Williams, Jr. is not an ESPN employee, we recognize that he is closely linked to our company through the open to Monday Night Football," ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz told CBSSports.com.  "We are extremely disappointed with his comments, and as a result we have decided to pull the open from tonight’s telecast."

-----
The latest sports-related figure to invoke Godwin's Law -- the act of comparing someone in modern culture to legendary very bad person Adolph Hitler -- picked a pretty bad subject for comparison, as Hank Williams, Jr., voice of Monday Night Football on ESPN, decided to hop on Fox and Friends and compare Barack Obama to the German dictator.

But, no, really, this happened. Williams decided to point out that it was foolish of House Majority Leader John Boehner to play golf with Barack Obama.

"Come on, come on, that would be like Hitler playing golf with [Israeli prime minister Benjamin] Netanyahu," he said. "In the shape this country is in?"

Wait! Don't pick your jaw up off the floor just yet. He wasn't done.

Hosts Brian Kilmeade and Gretchen Carlson were stunned (and later apologized for the remarks), but Kilmeade managed to point out that he doesn't "really understand that analogy." So Williams clarified it.

"I'm glad you don't brother, because a lot of people do," Williams said. "They're the enemy... Obama! And Biden! Are you kidding? The Three Stooges."

No, Williams did not list a third stooge, but maybe he was just referring to himself?

It was a gaffe of pretty epic proportions and unfortunately for Hank -- and ESPN -- they managed to shift the conversation directly to his 20th year with the WWL as the guy who screams the theme song at the beginning of the show.

"A one-year deal that keeps on going sure is fun," Williams said of his tenure with MNF.

Of course, that only works if it actually keeps on going.

Not a very funny stooge, if he did mean Hitler.  Hitler's dead.  I mean, at least Shemp and Joe were alive...

I'm not clear on the analogy, either, but I think he meant Hitler is the third Stooge.

Now that the NFL is doing mandatory post-concussion tests, maybe the next step is to test for the consequences of screaming the same theme song every week for 20+ years. As a brilliant Republican statesman once said, 'What a waste it is to lose one's mind'.

>>>There is no group more effen stupid politically in this country.  And they never take responsibility for their mistakes.

Oh, I don't know. The poor who have been voting democrat for the last 30 years seem pretty stupid. Yes, they continue to get their welfare checks, so they live just above poverty level and as for a loving family of mom, dad and kids... what's a dad?

>>An ordinary person puts that sort of statement out on Facebook, and next day they're looking for another job.

And he or she shouldn't be. Whatever happened to freedom of speech.

Bush has been compared with Hitler quite a few times, did those people lose their jobs?

Where's the bigotry? Lots of people think Obama is incompetent, and lots of people think he is not being as strong an ally of Israel as he should be.

I wouldn't even know where to start with your "obvious arguements".

You think the stimulus package created our huge deficit?  c'mon.  We have close to 10% unemployment, and almost 30% underemployment.  That is a gigantic loss of tax reciepts.  Huge. Whatever superlative you want.  From a debt perspective, it makes the cost of the stimulus package irrelevant.

Go take a basic macroeconomics course, then let me here your opinions.

Not wanting to get into politics here, so I wish to comment on Hank, Jr.  Hank Jr is nowhere as talented as his old man. NO way, NO how, NO whatsoever.   Because the elder Hank died at 29, "Bocephus" was able to gravy train his father's name.  Jr's mother Audrey had Bocephus dress and perform like his old man when Jr got his start.
Anyway, Bocephus has been performing this antiquated "All My Rowdy Friends"-based intro for over 20 seasons with no attempts at improving the show.  That song has been old since 1995 and ABC should have made a change then.  What saved his behind was when MNF moved from ABC to ESPN so he was able to get the hardcore fan who really doesn't care about an intro and an outro for that matter.  We are not surprised that NBC did not pick up Hank Jr for SNF.  So Jr, goodbye and thanks for corrupting the soul of country music which to be music from the heart, now it is music for headbangers.  At least people like Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen understood what your father was trying to do.

How can you call Obama the worst President of all time?
That's pretty obvious. Obama has the least experience of any President ever elected, and it has shown. He put into place around him one of the most incompetent groups ever to inhabit the Executive Branch of our government, and it shows.

He has spent far more time on the road as the "First Spokesman" for the Democratic National Committee, to whom he owes his selection and election, than he's even thought about spending doing his job at his desk ... and it shows.

The poor thinking never stops. His first stimulus package was a disaster that increased the national debt at the largest rate ever, and didn't fire up a single new job, net. So what does he want to do now? The same thing but with an even higher price tag.

He is everything we were warned about during his election process, and worse. Which President that preceded him do you think Iran would have decided they could get away with declaring that they were putting warships on the doorstep of our territorial waters? They wouldn't even have tried that with Carter.

Speaking of Carter (whom I made the mistake of voting for) ... I thought he was the worst disaster as a President we could have had. Obama has surpassed Carter in ineptitude at a frightening pace.

And what was this posters moronic bash at Republicans all about? When Reagan reduced unemployment from 10% to 4%, mortgage rates from 17% to 5%, and inflation from 11% to virtually nothing ... just which "rich people" do you think were helped more than the working man? I'll tell you as a "working man" that I need the lower inflation and interest rates, and I need to keep a job. Rich people ... not so much. The self indulgent morons who can't think their way through a tic tac toe game just make me sick.

Hank Wiiliams, Third Stooge, Indeed!!

Ah, 'tis wonderful to know that bigotry is alive and well, and that someone with a 'name' figures that's good enough to make it okay.

An ordinary person puts that sort of statement out on Facebook, and next day they're looking for another job.

Williams? He may lose that MNF gig, but will have nothing at all to worry about, though I'm sure we'll soon see the pro forma non-apology apology issued through his publicist.

The truth will out, and here's another: Hank Williams Jr is a dumbass.

And the hits just keep on coming! They wouldn't hire the Dixie Chicks either,if they had they would have fired them too for behavior not allowed by their network---and they would have been justified in doing so.  If you are a Disney employee you shut your trap if you don't you're gone.  Why make a talking point for some more hate-fuel?

No wonder our country is at a standstill and Congress can't seem to get anything done fast enough, even the Speaker of the House playing golf with the President is regarded as politically incorrect. Geez.
