MasonPosted by Josh Katzowitz

Derrick Mason was one of the three Jets offensive players who supposedly went to Rex Ryan recently to voice his dissatisfaction with offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer. Though the Jets put out a statement before their game Sunday that said the New York Daily News report was incorrect, Mason only played sparingly vs. the Patriots.

Ryan said Mason’s playing time had nothing to do with the alleged report, but that the two had a private conversation about another matter. Either, Ryan was dissatisfied with Mason about something else, the Jets were trying to trade him away, or maybe both of the above.

Either way, Mason is now gone from New York. As the Houston Chronicle reports, Mason has been traded to the Texans for a conditional draft pick. CBSSports.com's Mike Freeman reports the compensation for the Jets will be a low-round draft pick.

Without him, the Jets lose a receiver who had 13 catches for 115 yards and no touchdowns this season and a 37-year-old who also might have been a locker room distraction.

And now for the second time since last season, Mason is on the move. Which is too bad, considering he said, when he signed with New York, that the Jets gave him a greater chance to get to the Super Bowl. Looks like he might have been wrong on two counts with that prediction.

Mason was dissatisfield with Shottenheimer's play-calling. So is everyone on the offense. Brian needs to go.
Absolutely, I don't blame Mason for being unhappy with Shotty, everyone is. Unfortunately I don't think Shottenheimer is going anywhere this year. We'll suffer with Schottenheimers perplexing play calling all season.

Nobody can say for sure what BR did other than putting himself in bad situations.
I would agree. BR is certainly guilty of having way too many beers and putting himself in very questionable situations with other people who have also had way too many drinks. Hopefully this last episode has straigntened him out. I think he got married recently too, that should help keep him out of questionable situations also. Stay home Ben, stay out of the VIP area of local bars.

Mason used to be great.  But the reality is he's 37, slow, and at the end of his career.  He's nothing more than a one or two year possession receiver that should be hanging around 4th on someone's depth chart.  That isn't to say he's worthless... but he's pretty easily to replace.

If he wasn't happy and/or was being a distraction, you may as well unload him.  And frankly, the fact that they were able to get something back for an old, fading player at this point in the season is pretty impressive.

What's funny is the BR was never convicted of rape yet YOU decide to convict him from your distant, arrogant perch!

I'm not a steelers fan but common. Guys with that much money get played ALL THE TIME by gold diggin women.

Nobody can say for sure what BR did other than putting himself in bad situations.

Wow! It looks like Derrick Mason can take his yappiness and his pathectic YPC to Houston. Good luck with that Texans, he is quite the opposite of Andre Johnson.

like Mason!
I'm glad to see that he's going to a team that has a shot at winning something.
I find it hard to believe that Mason would lower himself to the level of catsoffs and criminals Plex and Santonio.
I find it funny that those 2 trashy ass gang-bangers ended up on the same scrap heap
This is too funny coming from a fan of a team with a QB who is a rapist. Judge not...

Another Josh Katzowitz pathetic article. Nowhere does he mention the fact Jeremy Kerley, the outstanding rookie WR from TCU, displaced him. Kerley was a steal in the draft and has come along enough to be the #3 receiver.  The Jets may expect  him to be the #2 next year.

Mason was dissatisfield with Shottenheimer's play-calling. So is everyone on the offense. Brian needs to go. Tom Moore or Callahan can easily take his spot and the Jets would be better for it.

Btw, Kerley scored his first TD Sunday. There will be many more to come.
