Pioli and HaleyPosted by Josh Katzowitz

There was a report out of Kansas City on Thursday, via 610 AM’s Nick Wright and his multiple team sources, that if the Chiefs had lost to the Colts last weekend, general manager Scott Pioli would have fired coach Todd Haley.

Luckily for Haley, the Chiefs overcame a 24-7 second-quarter deficit to pull out the 28-24 victory.

Pioli has strongly denied that claim, via Arrowhead Pride. He told the website it was “100 percent false.”

Responded Wright, “For the record, the fact that Pioli would even respond to my report I think tells you all you need to know.”

Well, I’m not sure Wright’s point about Pioli responding is necessarily true, but what seems not to be in doubt is the relationship between Pioli and Haley. As in, it’s rocky as hell and it might be ending sooner rather than later.

As we discussed last month, there have been reports of a rift between Pioli and Haley, even though the Chiefs are coming off an AFC West division title.

Which led’s Pete Prisco to write, “It's easy to take shots at Chiefs coach Todd Haley. But what about general manager Scott Pioli?  His moves have backfired in a big way. Trading for Matt Cassel and paying him a long-term deal was and is a bad move. The guy is just ordinary. Pioli has made some other questionable personnel moves, like drafting Tyson Jackson with the third overall pick. Pioli is from the "we invented the game bunch" that is (the) offspring of Bill Parcells. It looks like Mr. Rigid hasn't invented the game after all.”

Maybe not, but Pioli has the power to fire Haley. And it sounds like, he’s awfully close to doing exactly that.

They should both be fired, put that in your pipe and smoke it! Chiefs fans must really miss Dick Vermeil.

Both guys seem to be arrogant tools ... losing games definitely does not help Haley (no matter what Pioli's personnel mistakes may be).

Too bad for the Chiefs' fans.  They post up for that team.
