Meriweather fined $25K, suspension coming?

Bears safety Brandon Meriweather's found himself on the losing end of the infamous NFL fine envelope once already this year, and now he's losing again -- Meriweather's been fined another $25,000 by the league.

According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, Meriweather was tagged with the fine for a late hit last Monday in Detroit, which was flagged for unnecessary roughness.

Add that to the fact that Meriweather's been benched for Week 6's game against Minnesota, and it this probably isn't the greatest week of his life. But it could get worse -- Peter King of Sports Illustrated reported on Friday evening that Meriweather could face a suspension from the league if his on-field behavior continues.

"Unless there's a drastic change in his play, he may be invited to talk to us," NFL VP Ray Anderson told King.

King did say, however, that Anderson, who is "disturbed" by Meriweather's play, wasn't necessarily guaranteeing a suspension, but he would certainly received a warning of a suspension if he continues to draw fines for illegal hits.

Meriweather was one of the players fined heavily a year ago during "Safety Week," when the NFL levied a slew of heavy fines on a number of players for illegal hits and threatened suspension. (Meriweather was fined $50,000 which was later reduced to $40,000.)

Which makes us wonder what, exactly, an NFL defender needs to do in order to warrant a suspension. Apparently, it's going to require a serious injury sustained on a clearly illegal helmet-to-helmet hit.

Meriweather fined $25K, suspension coming?

WMU...hey...check out my blog I just started on here. I made my first post yesterday, and since I am a Detroit fan, I am going to try to talk mostly about our Detroit teams and teams within their respective conferences. My first post was about the Lions going 5-0 this season. I am hoping you can look at it because it says you are an amateur level. I will do my part to help you build your level and rep so you can do more things here on your profile.

Anybody else that can read this message is welcome to check out my blog and leave comments...good or bad. I like to read comments from opposing fans. They make me laugh when people do not know what they are talking about.

New England fans aren't saying I told you so... I mean, we did tell you so, but the truth is that he'd be a major upgrade to our secondary right now despite all the issues
That's actually a good point. I nearly fell off the chair laughing at the Sergio Brown whiff on an attempted hit a few weeks ago and the receiver got a ton of extra yardage. At least Meriweather made contact when he went for the KO. Hell, can we bring Rodney Harrison back?

a lion fan calling another team a loser..lmao seriously,  suh is dirty as hell but then again if your from detroit what do you know football hasnt had any importance in most of the "fans" life time
Seriously?  What other city would still have a pro football team after 10 years of not being in the playoffs, not evne being on Monday Night.  Not many teams would survive the run the Lions had, yet they still exist.

Also, Let's point out that Michigan also has the football teams of Michigan and Michigan State, are apart of the Big Ten and have one of the best rivalries in history betwen Michigan/Ohio State.  There is plenty of football and it's important to a lot of people.  You may be ignorant of that fact, but of course the internet gives you blanket authority to be a jackass.

Rocky, I have no idea who you are, but we need to party together sometime.  You pretty much summarized my personal thoughts on not only Bears fans, but the people of Chicago in general.  I played in the 2009 WSOP and the guy seated to my right had a Cutler Broncos jersey on which read "we sent the crybaby packing".  Cutler is a great fit in Chicago, because like the fans, he is a whiny little bitch.  In comparision......Cutler is playing in the NFC Championship and removes himself from the game from an apparent injury.  Matthew Stafford is playing in a pretty much meaningless game against the Cleveland Browns, seperates his shoulder on the tying TD pass, but refuses to stay on the sidelines for the 2pt conversion.  That's the difference between us from the Motor City and you guys from the Windy City.  We get knocked down, and we get back up.  You get a leg cramp, and you sit on the sidelines taking your Midol.  As long as Martz, Marinelli, Lovie, and Cutler are running your show, we will continue to pound your ass.  Enjoy the 8th pick of the 2012 NFL Draft.

You let the media tell you about Detroit.  Do not bash this city if you are ignorant to it.  If you never lived here, you don't know.  Visiting doesn't count either.  Stick to insulting the Lion's, but leave Detroit out of it.
Yeah!! Don't you people know that Detroit is a top 5 vacation hot spot?? Ranked slightly above Hoboken.

Meriweather fined $25K, suspension coming?

As a Bears fan, even I am surprised by some of the hits that Meriweather delivers.
I never say "I told you so" and I don't like people who do, but everyone in New England is collectively opening a bag of "I told you so's" on this one. The guy goes about tackling like he's playing Madden and uses the big hit analog stick every time. Some players just don't get it, no matter how many times they're reprimanded or how many times they're fined. I agree with the previous poster that Meriweather may not be long for the NFL but at least he has a bright future in the rap game...

Look, who ever talks about Detroit, the city, because you can't take the fact the Lion's are better than everybody (except maybe, Green Bay), you're a low life loser.  And a follower.  You let the media tell you about Detroit.  Do not bash this city if you are ignorant to it.  If you never lived here, you don't know.  Visiting doesn't count either.  Stick to insulting the Lion's, but leave Detroit out of it.  Oh, that's right, the Lion's are 5-0.  You can't insult them.  Jackass.
