Rex Ryan apologizes to Norv Turner

Turns out, Rex Ryan really didn't mean he'd have two championships if he had the Chargers' gig. (US PRESSWIRE)

Posted by Ryan Wilson

Jets head coach Rex Ryan seems unconcerned when his players -- including team captain, Santonio Holmes -- publicly pointed fingers at assistant coaches and each other when the offense sputtered, perhaps because Ryan's shtick is as much about brashness and bravado as what actually takes place on the field for 60 minutes each week.

During his first two years in New York, the Jets twice made it to the AFC Championship Game. This season, Rex's troops are 3-3, partly because the offense looks lost and the defense isn't as formidable as it once was. And while it may have no bearing on how the team performs, the sideshow distractions certainly can't help. The latest: Ryan telling reporters this week that "I think I would have had a couple rings" if he had gotten the Chargers' head coaching gig instead of Norv Turner.

That led the usually reserved Turner to wonder "if [Rex] had those rings with the ones he's guaranteed the last couple of years."  (Norv throws down the mic, walks off the stage to a standing ovation.)

This all happened Wednesday. On Thursday, Ryan apologized.

"It was me, it's all on me," he said. "I'm guilty. Absolutely … Obviously I wish this one never happened. It really was unintentional. I don't know what other word to use. I don't know what to even say."

Yes, because saying out loud "I think I would have a couple of rings" was an accident. It just slipped out.

(And look, we don't care that Rex said it, it's just weird that he's saying it was "unintentional." Backing over your kid's tricycle is an accident. Forming a thought and articulating it into words, for the media no less, is not an accident.)

After a dominant victory over the Dolphins on Monday night, the Jets look to repeat this week as they prepare to take on the San Diego Chargers. NFL.com's Pat Kirwan and Jason Horowitz preview this game. Watch the game Sunday on CBS at 1 PM ET. You can check out the Jets-Chargers Pregame here.

For the record: Norv has two Super Bowl rings -- both came as an assistant with the Cowboys. And Rex has one, when he was a defensive line coach with the Ravens.

Rex Ryan apologizes to Norv Turner

PATS FAN 50,

I will give you credit,at least I can have a grown up convo with you,you are an EDUCATED sports fan.Unlike DEAD BTN DUMB
AND N.ESPORTSOUTH,who troll in Jets threads because they are losers.Calling REX FAT like that has anything to do with anything
I can pretty much assure you both of them are 1 fry short of obese too
.
I don't think SPYGATE had much to do with anything,But Jets fans are SICK too of hearing what the Pats did 5 years ago.In the past 5 years they have really not been a good PLAYOFF team.I respect the Pats they were a Great ORGANAZATION but those days are over. They are an old team and that is obvious by their DEFENSE it is HORRIBLE.And How many Years does Brady have left.Belichick picked up OCHO,HAYNESWORTH AND ELLIS and all 3 are failures so his magic has worn off.

And if you are just trying to go with the facts why lie?
Spygate was not 10 years ago.Sep 14, 2007 – Coach Bill Belichick was fined $500000 and the Patriots were ordered to forfeit a draft pick and pay $250000.And if it never happened why were they fined.

As for Rex I love a coach with such confidence in himself, his coaches and his team. You are right maybe he should stop saying it,
but he took a team that was horrible and has made them into winners. And how are his PLAYERS NOT INLINE???

LMAO, I knew I would get called out for exaggerating about Spygate being 10 years ago. Thats what I get for being too lazy to tell people that or fixing it. However it does feel like that long ago considering all we still hear about it. I agree that the Pats have not been that good in the playoffs the last 2 years but 2007 they were great until the Giants defense played an awesome game and Tyree made one of the best catches ever. As far as people saying Rex is fat? I could not care any less. Just like the people who make fun of Bill B and his hoodie? Who gives a damn. Back to Spygate for a second. I know it happened and they got hammered by Goodell for it but here is my take on it. All they technically did wrong was film from the wrong location. Problem is they did it RIGHT AFTER Goodell sent the memo not to. They pissed off Goodell and he bitch slapped em for it.  Thats what happens when ya piss off the boss man. I just have a hard time with all the conspiracy theorists who make sooo much more of it.

What I said about Rex keeping his guys inline was the Holmes bashing on the O-Line. Granted Holmes should know better anyway but Rex needed to step in there and squash that right when it happened. As far as the Pats defense being horrible, I agree they were. However they are improving and doing it quickly. They have a long way to go but they changed to a whole new system this year so I dont truly think we will know what they can do for a few more weeks. You are right about Ocho not being worth anything. Haynesworth I said when we got him that I hope the Pats win despite him, his is a garbage person. Ellis has slowed down but I like him and think he will be better than average.

I think Brady has probably 6-7 more years left barring a major injury and I dont think Bill's magic has worn off on pickups. The odds are just coming back to even things out. I know this, the Pats have as good a shot as any team to make the SB and I like their chance whoever they play against every week. Nothing surprises me though. Just so you know, I am a lifetime Pats fan. When they were 1-15 I was there and I always will be. So I dont get too high over the SB's or too low over the playoff losses to the Jets/Ravens-whoever.

Rex Ryan apologizes to Norv Turner

Starting QBs with higher QBRatings than Mark Sanchez

McNabb, Campell, Cassel, Painter, Dalton.  What a joke he is.

Rex Ryan apologizes to Norv Turner

So because you have "a life", you just make up false statistics like the Jets have the 21st ranked offense to make the Jets look better than they actually are?  Wow.  So pathetic...

Rex Ryan apologizes to Norv Turner

Pats fan 50.
If you looked a N.E fan came into a JETS Thread insulting REX,because N.E fans still can't get over last years loss
at home to the Jets.So why not talk to them.

As for your question,I don't know if Rex could have won a S.B with the chargers team, the Chargers have a much better
Q.B and W.R'S,but the Jets win on a CONTROLLED Offense, great D,and Special teams play. So it is hard to say,I
DON'T think it was unintentional at all,Ryan knows what he is doing.I don't think he should apologize for what he
said because Turner has definitly underachived

I will give you credit there. Never looked who came to the thread first and insulted what team. I just get sick of people talking about the whole spygate BS 10 years later. While you are right about the way the Jets play the thing I disagree with is that you say you "know" Ryan would have won a SB in SD. There is no way for any of us to know that he would or wouldnt. Sure they had an awesome team but you never know how he would have gelled with them and would he have had the right assistants to help the team win? Fact is you never know and the fact is I actually like Ryan for the most part. I dont mind being somewhat cocky. However for him to guarantee a SB every year and then fail and to then bag on another coach for not winning one is just terrible.  I mean I can just see it now, 6 years from now after he has done this routine each year he finally wins a SB he will claim, "See I told ya!". Sorry but that doesnt work for me. If he would just tone it down a bit the Jets would be better off. If he would keep his players in line he would be better off. Problem is he loves the spotlight and coaches dont need to be in the spotlight. Last thing, there may be some Pats fans who are worried about last years loss to NY in the playoffs. Most of us are way past that and looking to this year.
