The Raiders could feature some combination of Palmer, Boller and Pryor Sunday against the Chiefs(AP)

CBSSports.com's Clark Judge was in the minority a day ago, when he didn't believe that Carson Palmer would start immediately for the Raiders after almost a year on the couch and just a week of practice. "It just seems as if starting a quarterback who hasn't played in over nine months, has no history with your team or his teammates and isn't in football shape isn't such a smart idea," he wrote.

A day later, Judge looks pretty smart because as it turns out, Palmer might not be under center when Raiders host the Chiefs Sunday.

Palmer to the Raiders

"I'm 95 percent sure he is not going to play," a source close to the situation told ESPN's Adam Schefter Friday afternoon. "Practicing Wednesday and Thursday, he felt he's not ready to make those high-velocity throws yet. Maybe they could decide something at the last minute, but I don't think he's going to play."

According to the NFL Network's Steve Wyche, Kyle Boller will start instead of Palmer.

It was those "high-velocity throws" that most troubled Palmer's skeptics. The former first-overall pick had lost considerable arm strength since suffering an elbow injury during the 2008 season but as recently as Thursday, one Raiders beat reporter said that Palmer's "sideline throws arrive in a hurry, and with plenty of zip."

But as we mentioned at the time, any questions about arm strength will linger until Palmer has to make a stick throw under pressure during a game.

Raiders head coach Hue Jackson hinted during a Friday radio appearance that the game plan could feature multiple quarterbacks. And according to the Oakland Tribune's Jerry McDonald, Kyle Boller, who replaced Jason Campbell last week, took first-team snaps to open Friday's practice.

McDonald added that "Jackson indicated he could reach a decision on whether Boller or Carson Palmer would start against the Chiefs on Friday, but that’s unlikely to happen in an open forum. He said he’d probably make the call while having his weekly 'Irish coffee' Friday evening. Chances are, that means the only people who find out are the CBS TV production crew on Saturday."

Perhaps giving more credence to the notion that more than one quarterback will play Sunday: rookie Terrelle Pryor has also taken first-team reps this week.

The Kansas City Chiefs will battle the Oakland Raiders this Sunday at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. Which team has the advantage? NFL.com's Pat Kirwan joins Jason Horowitz to preview this AFC West matchup. Watch the game at 4:05 PM ET on CBS. Also: don't forget to check out the Pregame: Chiefs-Raiders edition.

OHstlr, thanks bro.

Yes T.P., was super frustrating to watch these past couple years, and never really owned-up to anything he did off the field, nor did he ever reach the level of "epic-awesomeness" everyone thought he would. I do agree, he does seem like a selfish kid, no doubt. I'm just hoping he's changed his ways, but history is against him.  That's even under the guidance of one of the greatest football coaches ever, J.Tressell. Where I admit, I kinda have a man-crush on.. sorry but I love the sweater vest.

No dude, I'm down to earth about them making it to the SB, but I do think they'll make it to the playoffs, and potentially win a wild-card game.  I guess the point I was making is, I saw CP live up-close in person, that was last season yes, and he looked b/a. Better yet, it was against S.Diego.   So with a solid running game, that will only help the cause.

Again, I have to agree having the "fatest" recv corps, doesn't make them the best, bnms, but it does offer a ray of hope - especially if you can set up the deep ball off the playaction with a legitimate run attack. Or the quick slant for that matter.

Sorry about your Buckeyes bro, but they'll be back soon enough. As long as they beat Michigan. As far as my UK Wildcats, I'm holding off for BBall season.. ok now Im trolling..sorry.. different discussion board.

Give Boller the ball -he really has played ok recently  even Aaron Rodgers wasn't so good when he didn't get playing time. Boller throws the ball pretty hard but this is the NFL.

As far as your service to our country... right on!!!

As far as you delusions of gradueur...  Really?  Carson Palmer is going to get his swag back and lead the Raider Nation to the SB?  Yikes.  While McFadden is having a good start, opposing defenses will now start focusing on him since he was the very last key to your offense being productive.

I would really like to know how you think speed makes your receiving corps the best?  Yes, as a Buck fan, I can confirm that tOSU put down that TPryor runs a 4.3/40.  Put him at WR and he would be your best.  He has no interest in being there, however.  He is a proven self-centered person and that is only shown through his actions with the Bucks.  Place him at WR and I can guarantee you a disgruntled player on your team that will only be a cancer.

CP will not be your savior but he is the best option you have available.  With your patience you will only wait.... to be the next one in the Raider Nation that thinks you STILL need a QB.

This trade will turn around the Bengals. A great trade for them. Carson is not a great QB. And sure not worth a 1st rd pick. It is laughable really. The rookie red head is better than Palmer for crying out loud. You raiders will find out what a bad trade this was. I dont see the raiders making the playoffs. I do think they have one of the best offensive line in all of the AFC in it will help Carson when he plays. But McFadden is the elite player on this team much like A.P is for the vikings. It wont be enough to challenge for a playoff spot. Just my opinion.

dude please stop trolling.. next time I'll be sure to follow the strict guidelines set forth on how to write/talk. You know there are different areas of the world, where people....wait for it...speak/act/dress/live differently than others. This is called "diversity" and it's fundamental in America, which is why we are the greatest country on the planet. As far as punching my parents and jumping off a bridge, well Im in Afghanistan right now (I know OPSEC..sorry) so that's gonna be kinda hard at the moment. Can I get back to you? In the meantime why don't you send me a link to proper English when writing on a football blog and .

Wow, you sound like the biggest dumbass.... ever. I hope you don't talk like that in real life, if you do please do the world a favor and go punch your parents (if you want to call them that) in the face and then look for a really high bridge and try to fly. You can do it Bro, just have patience.

Report: Carson Palmer may not start for Raiders

i saw CP play last year at Cincy in December, against the Chockers, and it was epic.. trust me his still has the hot sauce. my lil bro n i had killer seats, obviously it was 10 degrees outside and it was bungles vs chargers, so no one cared, except for me a true 20+yrs Raiders fan... with no ocho or t.o. causing him grief and with fresh raw young receivers, he looked epic...and i was like 4 rows back (yes best seats i ever had, and will probably ever get ever) ... even my lil bro, who had no interest in the game at all, and was busy checking out the "scenery" even said the same thing, that without the two Queens, he was beasting..

so to all the True Raider Nation fans.. patience bro.. patience.. he's gonna dominate.. his running game now is sexy, and his receiving corps is the fatest in the nfl.. real talk.. moore, dhb, and mr. clemson 40yd dash..  oh btw did i read somewhere that T.Pryor runs like a 4.3 40yd, i dont know if he's that fast.. bc if he is.. just put rundmc and t.pryor wildcat offense, check the paw prints, and it's a wrap..

besides its the Chefs, and yes i spelled it correctly, the chefs, bc youre super soft..  we could beat them with dmc alone..  anyone who has dmc on their ff squad.. that's easy 40pts.. easy bro..

patience kids.. let's allow CP to get his swag back, and we will most def be giving TWO 1st round picks... Bengals Raiders wildcard playoff game.. it's gonna be epic..
