Vikings cornerback Chris Cook was arrested on domestic assault charges early Saturday morning and is being held without bail at Hennepin County Jail.

According to jail records, via Tom Pelissero of ESPN 1500, Cook was booked at 4:06 a.m. CT Saturday morning and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday at 8:15 a.m. CT.

Which means it's possible that Cook is could sit in prison when Minnesota takes on Green Bay Sunday.

"The Minnesota Vikings are aware of the incident involving Chris Cook," the Vikings said in a statement released by the team. "We take this matter very seriously and are still gathering all the details of the incident. We will not have any further comment at this time."

This isn't Cook's first run-in with the law in recent months either -- the cornerback was charged with brandishing a firearm back in March. At the time, Cook denied that he was involved in any sort of fight, and eventually the charges were dismissed.

Vikings coach Leslie Frazier had a talk with Cook in the offseason to reiterate the importance of staying out of trouble off the field, and the second-year player emerged as perhaps the most reliable cornerback on the field during the team's 1-5 start. At 6-foot-2, he has the size to match up with taller receivers and the speed to keep up with smaller ones.

Cook, a defensive back out of Virginia, was a 2010 second-round pick. He struggled with injuries his rookie season, but started the last three games for Minnesota thanks to a neck injury to Antoine Winfield.

The Vikings currently rank 24th in the NFL in pass defense, allowing 269.5 yards per game.

Without Cook, Asher Allen will likely step into the starting role with Marcus Sherels moving into the nickelback spot, giving the Vikings two of their top three cornerbacks under 5-foot-10. Rookie Brandon Burton also could be activated to provide some depth against Aaron Rodgers and the Packers, who run a wide-open passing attack that floods the secondary with receivers.

Even before the incident with Cook, Frazier said his short-handed secondary would be challenged against their undefeated division rivals.

"They do a lot of four- and five-wideout sets; more so than most teams that you play," Frazier said on Friday. "You would like to have all hands on deck, but the guys that are going to play are going to be ready to go and we are going to need them to step up and play big for us."

Vikings Chris Cook arrested for domestic assault

Women get the benefit of the doubt bigtime. I got a restraining oder out on me for calling about my kids and I never touch her in my life. Yes, im gonna call her 1000 times if she keeps me from seeing them and drops them off every other day with people that are strangers to them so she can run the streets.

>>>anyone that's watched even 15 seconds of Baller's wives has to at least think she had it coming....just a little bit.

No one - man or woman, has "it" coming.

Someone nagging you and wont' shut up?Walk out the door and file for a divorce. Problem solved.

>>> Cook gets held without the chance for bail from an alleged misdemeanor/minor felony?

Very easy to explain. Joe Sensor's wife accidentally hit someone, and was not likely to go out and do it again while the cops collected info on the case.

For Cook to be held in jail *without bond* - clearly it is believed he is a threat to his woife, and will attack her again if he has a chance.

Too bad the Packers evaluators couldn't figure that out with Johnny Jolly.

Vikings Chris Cook arrested for domestic assault

You guys who think the Starcaps case had anything to do with what team the parties played for are incredibly simple-minded. Must be nice to live in a world where nothing gets more complicated than sports. I kind of envy you.

That said, I think Cook would prefer jail to the beating he'd take from Packer recievers. Actually, making him deal with the humiliation of covering Packers one-on-one all night might be a just punishment.

Vikings Chris Cook arrested for domestic assault

The held without bail is rather confusing, sounds like he really must have Chris Brown'd it up, but anyone that's watched even 15 seconds of Baller's wives has to at least think she had it coming....just a little bit. There's NO WAY she's 100% victim in this. Should be an interesting story, similar to Brandon Marshall I'd bet.

Vikings Chris Cook arrested for domestic assault

This piece of trash should rot in prison. He should also be kicked out of the league. I wasn't surprised to hear that this wasn't his first time being arrested. I don't understand how these guys with money and priveledge, playing a game for a living, just can't stay out of trouble.  It's insane.  The NFL needs to start kicking sh@t bags like this out of the league. But that will never happen. If the NFL kicked out every player who has been arrested, there would only be 4 teams in the league. The NFL has turned in to a prison league, full of drug addicts, rapists, wife beaters, gun carrying, prima f@cking donnas who believe and are treated like they are above the law. He'll be playing tomorrow.

So Joe Sensor's wife kills a guy and spends three weeks at home before her arrest but Cook gets held without the chance for bail from an alleged misdemeanor/minor felony?  How can anyone explain that?

Vikings Chris Cook arrested for domestic assault

In 2010, I watched the draft in GB at their facilities with some friends.  The Packers needed DB's that year and many placed Cook on their "short list" and possibly a first round choice (trade up).  Long story short, I thought they would pick him up and right after I said it a guy that was a part of the franchise tapped me on the arm and said, "no matter what happens, that isn't going to happen. He isn't our type of person."

Well, I guess this is what he meant. It also shows that the GB talent evaluators knew more than the Vikings or at the very least cared more about it.

On the bright side, Cook just saved himself from ending up on at least two or three highlight reels for the GB wideouts. A talented kid no doubt but playing DB against the Packers this year is like being a glutton for punishment.
