Cornerback Leigh Bodden, a nine-year veteran, was surprisingly released from the Patriots on Friday, a source told Pro Football Talk.

BoddenThe move came as a shock, because, as Pro Football Focus points out, Bodden was the team’s best cover corner this year -- he played 222 snaps this year and had been thrown at 22 times, allowing 12 receptions for a touchdown while breaking up four passes. Considering the Patriots defense is ranked last in the league by allowing 423.7 yards per game (they’re also ranked last with 322.2 passing yards allowed), you have to wonder if this is a football-related move or from something that occurred off the field.

On Friday morning, Bill Belichick was asked about Bodden’s play, and he responded, “We’ll skip that right now.” He also said the team hadn’t made an announcement about anything Bodden-related.

"He's enjoyed this time in New England, but after meeting with coach Belichick this morning both parties agreed it was time to move on,” agent Alvin Keels told ESPN’s Josina Anderson. “Leigh is totally healthy and can contribute right away.”

And that is how it is done son.  To beat Brady, you keep him off the field and you jack the WRs at the line to disrupt the precision passing.  Take away the short quick slants and stuff.....you win.  If you sit back and play zone, you lose.

Props to the Steelers for changing the defense up and giving the pats a bit of their own medicine.

That explains the pats succes over the burgh.  If you can get to Brady, the Steelers win.  You hit him, disrupt the precise routes, and you win.  If his O line max protects with TEs and he can complete the short passes to Welker and Gronk, he wins.

See last years SB where Green Bay essentially used the NE pattern and had multi WR sets, short passes, and...win.

Thats a NE sports website that is speaking facts and still giving credit to the Steelers def.  Just FYI people.

I don't understand this move by the Patriots, the the Cowboys ought to jump all over he's probably as good as anyone else on the team and gives them some veteran leadership...somethin I think Terrence Newman hasn't done this year.

Belichick is such a douche and his ego is completely out of control.  The Patriots run is long over.  They may keep winning a bunch in the regular season, but come playoff time they will continue to crumble as has become their custom.

Tom Brady is a girl.

Hey jerk....with the Steelers record against Brady and Patriots, I would go back into hiding if I were you. Sit back and watch your "shower curtains" get "bitch slapped" by Brady once again. This is getting boring. I don't know why the Steelers are even on the Patriots schedule.

Bodden was hurt alot and has lost a step.  If he was the best cover corner we have then why would we release him?  We have a young group of corners than can only get better by playing.  Speed kills and that is what is needed in the Pats secondary.  We are last in pass defense so we can only get better.  Get the younger guys in and start molding our secondary for the future.  One thing I can say is Hoody has done a great job of getting a younger team.  We have gotten younger and faster in a hurry.  The only setback is experience and that only comes with playing.Cool
