Tebow criticism getting to be too much

The Tim Tebow criticism, at times, gets out of control. When the media piles on, it’s kind of expected, but when Tebow is so bad, that his opponents outright mock him during the game (as seen by Lions linebacker Stephen Tulloch Tebowing Tebow after Tulloch sacked Tebow on Sunday), it’s clearly time to think about pulling back.

Tulloch

But if you were in the Lions locker room following Detroit’s 45-10 pounding of Denver, the criticism wasn’t close to ending. In fact, it was rather harsh.

“Can you believe ‘15’?” one Detroit Lions defender told Yahoo Sports’ Michael Silver. “Come on -- that’s embarrassing. I mean, it’s a joke. We knew all week that if we brought any kind of defensive pressure, he couldn’t do anything. In the second half it got boring out there. We were like, ‘Come on -- that’s your quarterback? Seriously?’”

Which, frankly, is some stunning disrespect. While we try to criticize Tebow in a way that’s playful -- I certainly don’t have anything against the man, and I think his character and goodwill are a credit to the NFL -- we try not to be outright mean. That anonymous Lions player was outright mean.

Tebow's Progress
Look, it’s not like this is all Tebow’s fault. Kyle Orton couldn’t win with this bunch either, and Tebow’s skill set clearly isn’t strong enough to make him competent as an NFL quarterback. We don’t know if it will ever be good enough. But since he’s the only Broncos quarterback with a contract that extends beyond the end of this season, John Elway and John Fox wanted to see what he could do on the football field. The coaching staff is the one that’s playing him, whether it's deserved or not.

Clearly, he’s not ready. Clearly, that’s not all his fault. But the criticism continues, and considering he’s on a $9.7125 million contract, he’s ripe for it. But not all of it is fair.

Why, though, such vitriol from his fellow players? Well, Silver has a theory.
However -- and this is a big however -- there’s a glaring disconnect between many fans’ assessment of Tebow’s status as a wholesome winner and the way many NFL players process his presence. To some, the notion that Tebow somehow pushes harder or taps into a higher power than they do is insulting. The NFL is full of maniacally driven grinders who’ve overcome incredible odds to reach the pinnacle of their profession, and many of them are clean-living and well-mannered, too.

While few NFL players seem to have a problem with Tebow on a personal level, I know plenty who are put off by the mythology and the holier-than-thou fan base that lionizes his every accomplishment and perceives negative depictions of his ability through a persecution-complex-tinted prism.

Silver makes a good point, and with the way Tulloch and Lions tight end Tony Scheffler, who mocked the Tebowing phenomena by posing after a touchdown catch, mocked him, that hypothesis can’t be off base.

Yet, it’s unfortunate that his players have to be so mean. After all, most of them haven’t faced the kind of national criticism and ridicule Tebow is currently experiencing. It’s just too bad that Tebow’s grace has been turned against him.

Hey Lions dont get so cocky!!!! Just checked the stat line, not all that different. Besides the pick and fumble returns you won the field postion game to outscore them. You may have had double(or more) points but  its not like you didnt allow any yardage either.I missed most of it but i get the felling that the Broncs shot themselves in the foot with penalties again ,and by the stats they played fumblitis way to much.

You're wrong.  The Lions had a 24-3 first half lead and a yardage advantage of something like 250-90, in that neighborhood anyway. It was complete domination to say the least, penalties had nothing to do with anything.

By the way, you obviously don't follow these threads closely enough because if you did, you'd know it's not the Lions fans being cocky, it's people on here attacking the Lions and their players and fans after every single victory.   If it's not Suh they smash it's the coach and if it's not the coach it's an anonymous player that said something bad about Tebow...

That's how it normally starts and then it gets stupid...... I don't think it's too cocky to be proud of your team if they are 6-2 at the half way point with a 4-0 record on the road.  The Lions are a good team and have a pretty good chance to make the playoffs this year. Furthermore the team is getting better every season in every way possible.  So yeah, we're proud of our team, and whoever doesn't like it should just stop reading.

Tebow criticism getting to be too much

The Lions haven't been relevant in over 3 decades.  The idiot Detroit defender who bashed Tebow is only compensating for being affiliated with one of the worst, and most inept, franchises in modern sports.  Tebow, by contrast, is a Heisman winner and two-time CFB champion.  I would much rather have the latter's credentials than any player on a roster that has only NOW showed the sign of being decent.  By the way, Detroit will NEVER win even a division title with Green Bay around.  HAHAHAHAHAHA, f**kin losers.

Not getting to cocky here. 50 years of ineptitude will put a damper on that. The score at half was 24-3. The Bronco's didn't get in the red zone until late in the 4th quarter. Tebow had only 4 completions midway through the 3rd. Most of Bronco's  stats happened after the Lions put in the 2nd teamers. The Lions 1st team offense didn't play the 4th quarter. It was not an impressive game for the Bronco's, but a good team will do what it needs to do to win, and the Lions did just that.

Make no mistake though - this game was a beat down. Tebow or Orton the outcome would have been the same. Although Orton should be leading Denver. He's a class act that needs a team around him to suceed, the Bronco's just aren't it. Give Elway a couple more years and hopefully they'll turn it around.

Tebow criticism getting to be too much

ACCURACY AND CAN'T READ DEFENSES CAN BE IMPROVED.  FAVRE, AIKMAN, ELWAY, STEVE YOUNG, TERRY BRADSHAW, JOE NAMATH AND PEYTON MANNING ALL HAD GREAT ACCURACY AND READ DEFENSES VERY WELL IN THEIR FIRST SEASON.  SO GREAT, NONE OF THEM WON OVER 6 GAMES IN THEIR FIRST SEASON.

I HAD TO HEAR FOR 9 MONTHS FROM ALMOST EVERY MEDIA EXPERT AND 10,000 POSTS SAYING CAM NEWTON COULD MAKE IT IN THE NFL, CANT READ DEFENSES, CANT THROW, WILL NEVER HAVE THE NFL MECHANICS.  WHAT HAPPENED WITH THAT PREDICTION.  STUPID... NOW I HAVE TO HEAR THE EXACT SAME THING ABOUT TEBOW FOR THE NEXT 6 MONTHS?

TEBOW IS NO WORSE THAN JAMARCUS RUSSELL WHO WAS GIVEN TWO SEASONS AND CAROLINA'S JIMMY CLAUSEN WHO WAS GIVEN A SEASON TO PLAY.  GIVE THE GUY THE REST OF THE YEAR.  ODDLY ENOUGH, CLAUSEN WAS NEVER EVEN MENTIONED BY THE MEDIA EVER, AND JAMARCUS RUSSELL DIDNT GET EVEN 10% OF THE HATE TEBOW IS GETTING.  AND HE WAS A FAT SLOB ON DRUGS THAT WASNT EVEN TRYING.

FUNNY WORLD WE LIVE IN.  BUT THE AGAIN THE SAME PEOPLE KILLED JESUS CHRIST, AND HE NEVER DID ANYTHING WRONG BUT LOVE AND HEAL PEOPLE!!!!  AND HE'S THE MOST HATED PERSON IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD!  BILLIONS OF PEOPLE HATE JESUS CHRIST.  FUNNY WORLD WE LIVE IN.
