Patriots wideout and special teams ace Julian Edelman was inactive for Sunday's game against the Steelers but according to a police report, he was allegedly plenty active a day later at a Halloween party in Boston's Back Bay neighborhood. Edelman's due in court Tuesday on charges of groping a woman on the dance floor.
Details via the Boston Herald:
The alleged sexual assault was reported shortly after 1:30 a.m. at the Storyville bar on Exeter Street, said Jake Wark, a spokesman for the Suffolk District Attorney’s Office. … Edelman posted bail following his arrest and has not been spotted yet in Boston Municipal Court where he faces arraignment sometime today. The police report says Edelman "reached under" a woman’s party costume and "grabbed her vagina."
A male witness told police he watched as the alleged victim’s face changed into "an expression of shock" at the time of the reported sexual assault.
The alleged victim and the witness then demanded Edelman be thrown out of the club, though they were removed first after the witness threatened to fight Edelman. Police say the alleged victim was trying to keep the witness from approaching Edelman, who was later kicked out. The 5-10, 200-pound Patriots player denied any wrongdoing to the authorities before eventually being arrested and booked.
This news comes days after Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski had to apologize for … well, we're still not sure. He took a photograph with an adult film star, which apparently caused the organization much embarrassment. Whatever the outcome in Edelman's case, we have no idea what he'll have to do to get back in the team's good graces.
The Patriots selected Edelman in the seventh round of the 2009 draft.
