Suh, Goodell make up during meeting

SuhPosted by Josh Katzowitz

Ndamukong Suh had his meeting with commissioner Roger Goodell on Tuesday, and he’s taken to his Facebook page to tell you all about it.

It seems to have gone very well indeed.

"I am very appreciative of the opportunity to sit and speak with the Commissioner and his staff to clarify a few questions about my play, and the game in general,” Suh wrote. “I have gained a better understanding how I need to play the game to help my team win.

“I look forward to the rest of the season and the doing everything we can to bring the Lombardi Trophy to Detroit."

Suh has been characterized as a dirty player (probably because he’s seemingly always trying to rip off the other quarterback’s face), and he’s been hit hard by fines -- which is why he asked to meet with Roger Goodell. He wanted to get clarification on why his style of play has led to so many personal fouls and fines. Now, apparently he’s got it.

“We appreciate that Ndamukong Suh, Coach (Jim) Schwartz, and team president Tom Lewand took the time to meet with us today,” Goodell said in a statement. “Ndamukong plays the game with great skill and passion and is a major reason for the Lions’ success this year. We reviewed video showing that he has clearly made the adjustments to play consistently within the rules so that he can continue to help the team. We commend Ndamukong’s leadership in taking the initiative to schedule today’s meeting.”

Glad to see Suh and the NFL are, once again, BFFs. Opposing quarterbacks can only hope those good feelings last.

Suh, Goodell make up during meeting

Its funny listening to everyone cry foul like he is pushing everyone around. Oh wait he is, I dont care what everybody labels him.  He is a force out there and fun to watch.  Glad he plays for the Lions and will be the cornerstone for the franchise for a long time baby.  Entertainment, isnt that what the nfl is all about.  This isnt a gentlemens game, go watch golf if that is what you want.

Of course he had a prepared statement, just like they had prepared video evidence. If Suh and / or the Lions really thought Goodell would have come across negatively they wouldn't have set it up. Smart play on their part.

Suh, Goodell make up during meeting

I'm glad the article clarified that Suh requested meeting. radio and four letter network have been making it sound like he was called in "and he hasn't even been in the league 2 years!!". No he wanted the meeting he wasn't called in. They want to make us Radiers of the midwest I'm cool with that, just win baby!!

Nothing more than PR stunt as evidenced by his prepared statement after the meeting. I wonder what adjustments Suh made in the video room with the Commissioner present that would warrant Goddells comments? Suh's style of play, er dirty, would not have changed as evidenced by the video and ensuing penalties noted by referees. Unless Goodell was in agreement that those penalties were legal his statement makes no sense. Goodell you just got out-PR'd by a punk with brains.

This is a great sign for Ndamukong Suh, the Lions and the NFL in general.  Some many of the physically dominant players like Suh have had to change their style and learned techniques that have been taught to them since they were young to suit he new rules of the NFL.  Well done.  I little clarification can go a long way towards still being physical and dominant, but within the new rules.

"Suh has been characterized as a dirty player (probably because he’s seemingly always trying to rip off the other quarterback’s face)."

People probably get that impression because of quaint little verbal jabs like that. The ONLY thing Suh did that was dirty, was him treating Delhomme like a rag doll last year. But, I'd much rather have people speculating about Detroit's ethics as they win, rather than them being the league's whipping boys, like they were prior to last season. The Lions are relevent again. Heck, FOX News is commenting on the Lions, claiming that they're mocking Christians when they mocked Tebow on the field. Funny how the villainizing of the Lions occurred after Al Davis passed away. The NFL lost the man they always portrayed as a villain. Now, they need to replace him. If they want to portray Detroit as a dirty team, I have no problem rooting for the villains. Its far better than watching a team get pushed around and show no fight.

So until now he didn't know it was illegal to yank on the facemask in an attempt to make a QB smell is own butt?  What else doesn't this highly paid professional know?

Hey, if that's what he needed to gain clarity, great.  The man is going to be a great football player and I want to see him play with passion, violence, and intimidation to the best of his ability.  But there is a level of respect towards fellow competitors that is rightfully expected and necessary to the game, or else you pay the price.  As a Packer shareholder, I don't look forward to playing against him twice a year, but if he plays with respect and kicks our ass, kudos to him.   If he doesn't kick our ass, he can get an off-season job shining our Lombardi trophys, of which several more are coming....
