Ex-Bucs QB King: Gruden 'is inherently dishonest'

Keyshawn Johnson had some interesting things to say about Jon Gruden, a fellow employee at ESPN and his former coach, when he recently ripped the environment in Tampa Bay.

On Tuesday, former Buccaneers quarterback and current radio host Shaun King said on WQYK-AM 1010 (via JoeBucsFan.com) expounded on some of that talk, ripping Gruden pretty thoroughly.

"Jon has a major character flaw in that if he's not the center of attention, it's a problem," King said. "It is what it is. Ala the 'Chucky face.' You look at the NFL Films, it's just ironic, anytime that he's mic'd up or filmed, the 'Chucky face,' you know, it's showcased a lot more than normal."

King went on to say that Gruden "wasn't a guy that a lot of his players were endeared to" and that the coach-turned-broadcaster "is inherently dishonest."

That's a lot of mud that just got slung Gruden's way, but if anyone has actual knowledge of Gruden's behavior with the Buccaneers, it's King, who led the team to an NFC Championship Game.

That being said, you could pretty easily argue that all of mankind is "inherently dishonest" and that none of the traits that King described will keep Gruden, who recently signed a five-year extension with Monday Night Football, from being a popular name rumored as a candidate for open coaching positions around the NFL.

Ex-Bucs QB King: Gruden 'is inherently dishonest'

Agreed Chargers, I can't stand to watch those sycophantic interviews of Gruden. And he's the same broadcasting games, blowing smoke up everyone's ass. Excusing mistakes. Just not being critical or objective at all.

Keyshawn may be a a clown, jackass, whatever you want to call him, but he's spot on with Gruden being a habitual "truth-shader" and low class person.  Gurden has the pleasant attitude and charisma to hide it well, but it's still there.

My biggest complaint about Gruden on MNF is he won't shut up!  Ever!  He rattles on until I want to scream!  Let us watch the damned game already and please shut up once in awhile!

Grudeen is "inherently dishonest'. On MNF he loves everyone, "thisguys the best", thatguys the best".  They can't all be the best.  I do believe Shaun King, Gruden seems like an ego-maniac. He won a SB with Tony Dungy's team, that's true.
Keyshwan like the spotlight too, but I think hes on target with this call.

Ex-Bucs QB King: Gruden 'is inherently dishonest'

I'm going to guess that NONE of these previous posts - bashing King - are former Oakland and/or Tampa fans??

If you all remember correctly, BOTH organizations made it known publicly they were quite happy once Gruden was gone.  Actually, the Tampa departure was just a social debacle.  Additionally, I know as a Packer fan, countless former players over the years have said that Gruden was a jagoff - I'm trying to be nice - when he was an assistant under Holmgren.

Long story short.  Gruden can be a d^ck.  This is a fact as seen in his antics on the sidelines and coming from countless sources from multiple teams.  So why are some of you so surprised that it turns out he has psychopathic tendancies?

I simply find it hard to believe there are that many people who dislike Shaun King (actually, I find it hard to believe many people would care enough to remember Shaun King).  What's your motive?  Well, other than hating almost anything and everything.

Keyshawn Johnson is a whiner looking for attention who probably needs some Prozac.

Shaun King is just hoping to get some ratings by getting Keyshawn on his radio show.

Jon Gruden is always praising everyone lest he offend anyone that he may work with in the future. His one on one interviews on the MNF pre-game show are just a blow fest of the player or coach he has on the interview. It verges on disgusting.

Didn't realize people hated King so much. You don't have to be  great, good or an NFL player in general to know when someone has character flaws so quit with the "King was a horrible QB" talk...it has nothing to do with it. I wouldn't be surprised at ALL if he's telling the truth. Every time I wathc MNF, the thing i'm asking myself is "Is there any player that Gruden doesn't say "man I really love this player" about?" All he does is gush about how great all these kids are that he's met and what good "football minds" they have. I'm convinced Gruden is going to be the new Madden, spewing the most generic, uninsightful, and unhelpful information till he stops making any sense at all...

As for the writer, how is the human race "inherently dishonest"? Do we lie as children till we get told it's bad? Do we lie whenever we can? We may be inherently self-serving, lying when it benefits us, but that's very different from being inherently dishonest. If you really do think humans are inherently dishonest, how can you stand having a conversation, telling a story, or sharing any information with anyone? Must be a depressing life.

That QB class of 1999 really really sucked

Shaun king is a joke.  He made it to one NFC championship game.  Besides that, the guy was nothing but a career backup.

Shaun King wasn't a career backup

He was out of the league pretty quick
