DeSean Jackson has had a rough year. He’s been clamoring for a contract extension for the past two years, and he’s not playing well in the ultra-important final year of his deal (he’s making just $600,000). Earlier this year, Terrell Owens, not necessarily a guy you want to take advice from when dealing with money situations, said Jackson should sit out games in protest.

Today, Jackson won’t have a choice in the matter.

According to the Philadelphia Daily News, Jackson completely missed a team meeting Saturday, and the team has told him he won’t be active for today’s game vs. the Cardinals.

It’s a season that has quickly turned into a nightmare for Jackson – who, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter missed the Saturday morning special teams meeting because his alarm didn’t go off and he overslept.

Jackson has been outspoken about wanting a new deal, and though the Eagles have said in the past that he deserves a new contract, he didn’t get one last year because of complications with the expiring CBA. Even though there’s a new agreement, that doesn’t mean he’s on the verge of getting a new deal right now.

Especially since he’s been rendered irrelevant for much of the season, making 29 receptions for 503 yards and two touchdowns while dropping passes and losing his ability as a deep threat.

“The defenses are trying to take away what we do best,” Jackson said this week. “We’ve got to be able to figure it out. Myself, at times, it’s frustrating, because I am used to making the big plays, scoring long touchdowns, things like that, but right now, it’s not really working. Defenses are not letting it happen. We’ve just got to figure it out.”

The acrimony between Jackson and the Eagles isn’t new. He raised eyebrows earlier this year when he said his health was his most important priority while winning games for the Eagles was No. 2*. Basically, he was saying he didn’t want to hurt himself only to lose out on his potential for a big new contract.

*Jackson isn’t the only player in the NFL who feels this way, but for him to verbalize it was a little surprising and probably not very business savvy.

And now, he’s becoming a bigger problem for the Eagles, who still have plenty of talent on offense but now have to deal with the fact their No. 1 receiver can’t bother to wake up for team meetings.

I know as a teacher your quality of life will be shortend, from grading all those papers you will be barely able to walk in your 50s if you live that long.

I know that $600,000 is small for an NFL salary, but as a teacher I make approximately $40,000 even with side jobs.  Players who signed a contract should shut up and play until their contract is over.  Even the league minimum is hundreds of thousands more than i make at a real job!

Another one huh? Here is your education for the week. 1st of all. His JOB is a NFL Football player. If you work hard enough, you can make it to the top of your profession like HE did. His JOB only lasts 3-7 years on average. He wants to try to make enough money to last the rest of his life. Sounds alot like us too! Big difference is, there are only a few job/postiions in the NFL the pay very well in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD. There are thousands of people that do our jobs. Supply and demand my friend. We did make a choice on what job we wanted and he picked NFL PRO FOOTBALL player. Made his dream happen and wants to get paid for it. Who are we to judge that? You want the best for your family as does he. 2nd, you wanna crack on the Union too? The team can cut you at ANY time for ANY reason. What bargining chip does the player have? Only his skills. See what happen to Sterling Sharp? He played hure for 2 years for a woeful pack team. Hurt his back bad in a contract year. Bye Bye see ya! 3rd. Remember this always and you won't have this problem again. On the field, its a game. Off the field, its's a business. They are just like you and me.

For me, 'just' and '$600,000' in the same sentence was telltale sarcasm.

@Coachrich22 Fitz just signed a monster deal thats gonna keep him in ARI forever. Eagles are not gonna bring this guy back, hes not worth the money he wants. Maclin is better than any WR Vick had in ATL so as long as they have him and add a decent guy to mix in with Avant they will be fine. They need to save the money anyway for when McCoy gets extended.

The real question is.... would the "eagles" do the same if the team was still in contention???

another crook trying to hold an NFL team hostage.  What's with these egomaniacs not living up to their contractual obligations?  What would happen to a cop, teacher, UPS driver or secretary for doing the same things for the same reasons? Does the players union stand by his actions??? In any other job, you'd be fired...what a spoiled b-rat...It happens all to often in this league...Kudos to the Eagles for taking a stand...wonder if DJax would be doing the same if his team were in contention...

This guy doesnt need a contract.  Let him go.  Trade for Fitzgerald or something.  Kolb can have Jackson back, Obviously, Kolb is a bust.  Fitz needs to leave Arizona anyway.

I wonder how a writer can put "just" and $600,000 in the same sentence.  Poor D Jackson is making just $600,000.  He had a contract to play football for that and has had a fairly mediocre season and hasn't deserved more than that.  I wonder how much more he deserves and on this team I think they have enough poison already.  I keep seeing post and articles about how great of a coach Andy Reid is but it certainly seems the entire has a lack of leadership.
