Earlier this week, Steelers legend and Penn State alum Franco Harris came out and publicly ripped the Penn State Board of Trustees for firing Joe Paterno.

The decision to do so got Harris fired, as the Meadows Race Track and Casino decided to dump the Hall of Famer as an endorser.

"In light of the recent developments with Franco Harris regarding Joe Paterno’s dismissal, Franco and The Meadows have mutually decided to put their business relationship on hold at this time, while these matters are looked into further," the Meadows said in a statement.

It's a surprising turn of events, especially considering that this is, you know, a casino. It's not exactly the home of the moral high ground. Still, it seems that they probably recognized Harris Q-rating would take a hit.

More on Penn State scandal

"Now, everyone gets to interpret in their own way," Harris said recently. "That's what really bothers me: Joe did what was right for him to do. He forwarded the information to his superiors. That's the legal procedure at Penn State."

According to a story posted Wednesday on WTAE.com, Harris' friends warned him that speaking out in support of Paterno would leave him susceptible to criticism from potential sponsors, but Harris said he was unconcerned.

WTAE's Sally Wiggin reports that Harris will meet with Penn State University President Rodney Erickson and the Board of Trustees.

"I really want to get some answers," Harris said. "How do you justify the firing of Joe Paterno? And I want to know from the president, why aren't you rehiring Joe Paterno?"

Harris might be legally right to defend Paterno. We won't know that until the full legal proceedings in this matter are finished. But if Paterno could have stopped the terrible things that allegedly happened at Penn State from happening, there's really no moral ground to stand on.

Even the people who run a casino can see that.

I don't get it either.

The guy who supposedly saw it, and supposedly stopped it, and then told Joe Paterno and Joe told his superiors is on administrative leave, still being paid, and Joe gets fired? The dude waited years to do something about what he saw, and I think if anyone should have been fired it should have been him. Also... the superiors that Joe informed who did nothing. Its not Joe's place to take the story of one man and go to the police with it. That is for the school board and administration. I just don't get it.

To me, unless Joe has raped boys himself, he should not have been fired. It was hear say and that is not evidence. This is what the school administration is for, and that is who Joe informed of the story.

Franco Harris - what an idiot. You need to shut your piehole and think about hundreds of children who have suffered at the hands of of Lucifer's helper, Joe Paterno. I'd fire your ass too. Wait until the rest of this horror story comes out. Penn State is DONE.

Harris pops out to defend Paterno. How nice. Will he be so quick to defend the alleged victims? Has he? Maybe I missed it?
Do I care what the casino chose to do with Harris? No. Do the Trustees have a responsibility to answer Harris or anyone why Paterno was removed? I don't feel it! Harris would have been much wiser to privately support Paterno and be available to assist those families who could use someone with ties to the community and program when needed. Protecting those that can stand alone seems to be rampant in this mess. Harris should have waited to speak.

Penn State prefers to be losing at halftime, because at Penn State, they like when you're a little behind in the locker room. That's a joke, did you get that one? It's a play on words, we like to have fun here."

What do you mean he might be legally right to defend Paterno? Of course he can " legally" say most anything he wants. It's called free speach and one would think most Americans would know that.

Joe Paterno knew that young boys were being violated by someone he knew and he did nothing to stop it. He should hang from the muther fen rafters. It happened on his campus, in his showers in his sports facility. He should have not just fired sandusky but made it known to the world what happened. Bring it all out right then and he never would have lost his job and if he did at least he would have his reputation and pride. Now he is about to die a shrivled up ass clown covering up the rape of young boys to protect a predator. Disgusting. I am shocked that Sandusky hasn't put a bullet in his head yet. Im glad he hasn't because that is the easy way out. Let him go to court and have everything he ever had stripped away from him and let him see the disgust in everyones eyes as they stare at that monster with hatred. Imagine..just imagine what else will come out over the next 6 months and more. Mcqueery should be fired of course and is as disgraceful as paterno. To not stop what was happening. To not go to the police even a few months later after he saw that nothing happened to Sandusky is horrifying. His career is over.

tcp63, you make a valid point, but it doesn't really apply to this story. Didn't you read where it said a lot of this stuff occurred on the PSU campus, including in the shower in the football team's locker room? But hey, nevermind.......just continue to blame the victims here.

People don't understand how stealth some of these pervs are, especially guys like Sandusky (allegedly) who have managed to evade criminal justice all these years. But he had the perfect cover. He was a renowned coach and mentor. And rightly or wrongly, parents trusted him. People can blame the victims and their families. You can say the parents should have known. But we have to keep in mind that these are young boys. There is a whole other dimension of shame and secrecy when it comes to young boys being abused.

You know you're on the wrong side of an issue when a damn casino is taking the moral high ground.
