Earlier this week, Steelers legend and Penn State alum Franco Harris came out and publicly ripped the Penn State Board of Trustees for firing Joe Paterno.

The decision to do so got Harris fired, as the Meadows Race Track and Casino decided to dump the Hall of Famer as an endorser.

"In light of the recent developments with Franco Harris regarding Joe Paterno’s dismissal, Franco and The Meadows have mutually decided to put their business relationship on hold at this time, while these matters are looked into further," the Meadows said in a statement.

It's a surprising turn of events, especially considering that this is, you know, a casino. It's not exactly the home of the moral high ground. Still, it seems that they probably recognized Harris Q-rating would take a hit.

More on Penn State scandal

"Now, everyone gets to interpret in their own way," Harris said recently. "That's what really bothers me: Joe did what was right for him to do. He forwarded the information to his superiors. That's the legal procedure at Penn State."

According to a story posted Wednesday on WTAE.com, Harris' friends warned him that speaking out in support of Paterno would leave him susceptible to criticism from potential sponsors, but Harris said he was unconcerned.

WTAE's Sally Wiggin reports that Harris will meet with Penn State University President Rodney Erickson and the Board of Trustees.

"I really want to get some answers," Harris said. "How do you justify the firing of Joe Paterno? And I want to know from the president, why aren't you rehiring Joe Paterno?"

Harris might be legally right to defend Paterno. We won't know that until the full legal proceedings in this matter are finished. But if Paterno could have stopped the terrible things that allegedly happened at Penn State from happening, there's really no moral ground to stand on.

Even the people who run a casino can see that.

One time I had a boss I worked for for 10 years that started stealing from our employer and stopped doing his job.  I went over his head to the owner and they ended up spinning his shortcomings back on me; and I ended up losing my job.  However; I would not change anything because I would not work for that employer if he is stupid enough to believe a lazy thief over me.  Fortunately I am employable so I found another job.  Never put your job ahead of your morals!!!  If you are not a moron you will get another one!
Joe Pa is just as guilty for not pursuing this issue.  Every kid that got jammed up after the first reported incident is Joe's fault. The laws in the 1800's were a lot more effective.  Immediate punishment is a deterent.

Dude, if you hear that a child is being raped in a shower, on campus...You freaking call the cops! Period. The point is, this could have been stopped. Forget moral obligation, it happened on his campus. In his shower room. Like it or not, he is responsible for stopping/reporting the pediphile. I could give a rats ass about Franco!

I just wish all you people against Joe Paterno would lose your jobs because of something your boss didn't do.  Oh, yeah, and try to remember the phrase "moral obligation" when you go to the voting booths next election.  If you vote any of the jokers who are in office now back in, then your BS about "moral obligation" from a college football coach is just hypocrisy.

I'm getting very tired of Penn St apologists blaming anyone but themselves...This was a huge cover-up - if you're not getting that, sorry, but you're an idiot, including Franco Harris...Paterno should have been fired because he knew and he did nothing, i.e. he WAS part of the cover-up...Think about it, for 15 years he did nothing!

How many kids wouldn't have been abused over the years if just one person at Penn St came forward instead of trying to cover their respective asses?

for the sake of argument, lets say this was your son or mine who was in the shower. Would u be happy with everyones actions? HELL no u wouldnt be or I. so if we go with that, you people who think everyone did what the law requires would be Ok with the outcome as it stands. We as a society dont feel pain unless it involves us personally. These grown men are all paying for their silence as they should.  Now lets see, the undergradute at the time is now an assistant coach. Damn do u think he was bought with a job? YES. joe pa kept his job at the time. no one was punished or arrested or fired. so where was justice served. so keep saying joe pa and the others did nothing wrong but i say they did nothing RIGHT. B 4 REAL
