Earlier this week, Steelers legend and Penn State alum Franco Harris came out and publicly ripped the Penn State Board of Trustees for firing Joe Paterno.

The decision to do so got Harris fired, as the Meadows Race Track and Casino decided to dump the Hall of Famer as an endorser.

"In light of the recent developments with Franco Harris regarding Joe Paterno’s dismissal, Franco and The Meadows have mutually decided to put their business relationship on hold at this time, while these matters are looked into further," the Meadows said in a statement.

It's a surprising turn of events, especially considering that this is, you know, a casino. It's not exactly the home of the moral high ground. Still, it seems that they probably recognized Harris Q-rating would take a hit.

More on Penn State scandal

"Now, everyone gets to interpret in their own way," Harris said recently. "That's what really bothers me: Joe did what was right for him to do. He forwarded the information to his superiors. That's the legal procedure at Penn State."

According to a story posted Wednesday on WTAE.com, Harris' friends warned him that speaking out in support of Paterno would leave him susceptible to criticism from potential sponsors, but Harris said he was unconcerned.

WTAE's Sally Wiggin reports that Harris will meet with Penn State University President Rodney Erickson and the Board of Trustees.

"I really want to get some answers," Harris said. "How do you justify the firing of Joe Paterno? And I want to know from the president, why aren't you rehiring Joe Paterno?"

Harris might be legally right to defend Paterno. We won't know that until the full legal proceedings in this matter are finished. But if Paterno could have stopped the terrible things that allegedly happened at Penn State from happening, there's really no moral ground to stand on.

Even the people who run a casino can see that.

HEll, I gratuated from PSU, maybe my employer should let me go for this post.

i agree. you likely helped cover this up just like the entire admin staff at that low life university.

i do not support what Sandusky allegidly did or the cover up (if true) by campus officials and such.

don't lie.

you don't like your university and beloved old feller coach being dragged thru the cornhole mud. you'd be much happier had this cover up continued. then on saturday, you could get drunk and act like a moron but feel... somehow better than the rest of the college kids around the country cause... by god WE ARE PENN STATE!

I admired Franco as a player, but he's come off in this whole Sandusky/Paterno discussion as, well, just not very bright.  The notion that Paterno "did the right thing" would be laughable if this weren't such a deadly serious and tragic situation.  He did not come close to doing the right thing.  I can easily imagine that there were limitations of age, perspective, world view, etc. that could have led Paterno to rationalize to himself that he had done the right thing, but come on.  And RE-HIRING HIM??  NOW??  Impossible.  Penn State needs to confront the truth in all the ways that the truth can be confronted, and at the same time it needs to move on where it appropriately can.  A new coach, a new AD, and a new president are all appropriate areas in which it must move on.

Problem is in this country we assume guilt until innocence is proven.  It is actually the OTHER way around.  You are supposed to assume INNOCENCE until guilt is proven.  I also do not think Jo Pa should have been fired...you have no idea what he knew..when he knew it.  and he is old school..if his buddy tells him it is no big deal..he was just horsing around...he would believe him!  This shit about Jo Pa being omnipotent and should have used his power is bullsh..t  it was the AD and school's job and the football team should not suffer for that.

Jesis Chrsst..in society we punish even bystanders and all who looked on these days...punish the specific guilty ppl folks...and let it go at that.

Casino can fire for whatever they want...but I support Franco and his feeling on the matter.
Public opinion can kiss my  a..  .

THANK YOU ESPVINNY!!!!  Who in their right mind thinks anyone did the right thing in this case?  Leave Sandusky in a leaking pile in the corner and bring the kid to the hospital.  There is no way he gets away with it if there is a file opened at the hospital.  There is however apparently a way out for him if all his boys down at Penn State help him dust it under the carpet which is clearly what happened.

Run Duece Run, I assume you speak of McQueary then since he is the one who allegedly witnessed the incident? You may as well just burn Joe's house down and throw him in jail.  The majority of us are not saying Joe shouldn't have been removed.  He just should not be getting destroyed for the entire thing.  To read and see the media and haters comments, you would think that Joe committed the crimes.  I have not seen Sandusky in many of these comment threads.

Anyone who thinks Paterno did the right thing....is a flat out moron.  Period.  Take off your Penn St glasses and your Nittany Lion underoos.  The only reason he and the Board of Trustees are not serving time is because of lax laws.  They knew about the abuse and should have reported it to the police.  But instead they covered it up, hoping it would go away.  And the result....is the crapstorm they are left with now.  Its not over, Penn St will suffer irrepairable damage.  You can kiss your beloved football program goodbye and get used to more of a "Northwestern" type of feel around the program.  No one will want to go there and why would they.  The entire university has made an ass of itself in the wake of this scandal.  Just telling you what you look like from the outside.  The demonstrations supporting Paterno made you look absolutely pathetic and clueless to the rest of us.  Even coach looks foolish in all of this forever tarnishing his legacy.  Which is sad, cuz this all could have been avoided if he had just done the right thing, which contrary popular opinion in Happy Valley, he did not do.  Not even close...

Bizona NAILED it. Ask these Paterno apologists if they would have felt what he did was enough if it had been one of THEIR kids being molested. Ohhhhh it would be a totally different story then I bet. What we have here is classic tribalism, bordering on god worship. These people believe their "people/god" (Paterno) can do no wrong. To say otherwise is blasphemy. Why do they believe he is exempt from any possible wrongdoing? He won al ton of football games. Imagine this, Paterno had coached there just 2 years and won 8 games total. Do you think there would have been this level of ouitrage? HELLLLLL no. Now ask whats the only difference between my hypothetical story and real life? A ton of wins. Therefore, winning lots of football games exempts PAterno from doing ANYTHING wrong. I challenge you apologists to point out the fault in what I have said
