Ray Lewis: Ray Rice needs more touches for Ravens

Over the past few days, we've pointed out that the Ravens would be wise to get the ball in the hands of their best player more often. That player is Ray Rice. When the Ravens win, he gets an average of 18-plus carries. When they lose, it's about eight carries.

On Tuesday, John Harbaugh refuted the claim that there's a connection between Rice's carries and the losses, but everyone's not in agreement with him on that. Specifically, Ray Lewis, who, according to our Ravens Rapid Reporter Jason Butt, believes that Rice needs more touches if the Ravens want to win.

"That's our bell cow," Lewis said. "If that talent right there isn't touching 25-30 times then you have to question yourself, what are we actually doing balance-wise?"

This isn't the first time a Ravens defender has spoken out about Rice's touches -- after the loss to Jacksonville in Week 7, Terrell Suggs basically told CBSSports.com's Pete Prisco the exact same thing.

"I don't really know what the game plan was," Suggs said at the time. "When I have a Pro Bowl running back, and he's not getting his touches, I'm going to feel some kind of way about it. He wants the ball. And I think we should feed him. Ray Rice is a phenomenal player. You have to use your phenomenal players."

Over the next few days, everyone started pointing fingers everywhere, even though the obvious solution was, in almost everyone's opinion, to give Rice more touches.

And yet, three weeks later, he got less touches in another game against another mediocre team in another non-blowout. The Ravens have the talent to win the Super Bowl this year, but if they're not utilizing it to properly beat the teams they should beat, they might not even make the playoffs.

Ray Lewis: Ray Rice needs more touches for Ravens

Ray Lewis and Terrell Suggs are saying what a lot of Ravens fans are saying-give Rice the ball.  I'm really not sure what Cam Cameron's or any other coaches thinking was in the Seattle and Jacksonville games.  Nothing against Joe Flacco's passing, but mixing it up-passing and running, wins ball games.  Even I, a non-football player knew what was coming after awhile in the Seattle game.  Baltimore has 2 good running backs in Ray Rice and Ricky Williams, 3, if you count Vontae Leach.  Balrimore's coaches should use them much more efficiently.

Rice, MJD and LeSean McCoy would each  be putting up much better numbers on other teams. Wish we had one of those guys on my Redskinds, but little Shanny would probably still mess things up.

the bengals could very well beat them.  if that happens, ravens probably won't make playoffs as they have to play cleveland twice.  that's 2 more losses right there.  will probably also be indy's only win this year.  nothing would make me happier(except #7 for steeltown)

Ravens PSL holder since '99, if Harbaugh doesn't even know how many carries his
star running back has, HE SHOULD FIND ANOTHER TEAM TO "COACH".

Ray Lewis: Ray Rice needs more touches for Ravens

I don't know Ray Rice's contractual situation and performance bonus potential for this year. But these lay-down games where they're barely using him are coming against deadbeat teams, ones where you'd expect him to have a good chance to perform at an elite level, thus getting him to elite money.  I smell a rat within the Ravens' brass, perhaps more than one.

Really?  They need Lewis to tell them this?  Ray Rice hasn't even scraped the surface of his potential yet!  Rice could be one of the best the game has ever seen, yet the Ravens continue to short-change him. Ray, get out of Baltimore as soon as you can.  Just like MJD, you deserve better.

If Harbaugh can't see that giving Ray Rice 5 rushes in a game isn't going to get you wins, then he might as well start looking for a new job.
