Andre Johnson expected to return this week

It sounds like the long-awaited return of Texans receiver Andre Johnson will come this week -- just in time for Matt Leinart to replace the injured Matt Schaub at quarterback for the rest of the season.

That’s what coach Gary Kubiak said today when he shared the news that Johnson practiced with no problems.

“He took all his reps with the team,” Kubiak told reporters. “All systems should be go this weekend."

If that’s the case, it’d be the first time since Johnson injured his hamstring in Week 4, and it’d be welcome news for a Texans squad trying to figure out how it’ll survive the rest of the season without Schaub.

In other Texans injury news, safety Danieal Manning, one of the reasons Houston’s defense has become such a strong unit this season, returned to practice for the first time since breaking his leg in Week 7.

I think Leinhart will be just fine with the Texans. Schaub has never really impressed me, all of the big plays he has made this season have been on wide open receivers and blown coverage. Its very rare that you seem him thrown and accurate bullet into double coverage and come away with a reception. For all we know Leinhart has every possibility of being an improvement.

It is all about the run game.  The Texans do not have to rely on Leinart (thankfully).  With Andre back there will always be the threat of a big play which "may" keep the safeties honest and allow the run game to flourish.  I still believe opponents will stack the box and make Leinart throw.  The Texans will go as there run game goes, but that also means that Leinart will need to have "some" success throwing.

All things considered this is perfect for Houston. With Andre back it takes a lot of pressure off Leinart. All he has to do is manage the game. He will not be called on to make miracle plays, just run the plays called. Teams will not be able to over-load on anything.  Load to stop the run, that's fine that leaves Andre one on one so Texans feast on passes to Andre and tight ends and swings out of backfield to Foster. Drop a lot back in coverage, that's fine, Texans just pound Foster and Tate.  Against Tampa the Texans only threw what, 18 pases. Texans roll.

The Texans have the #1 rated Defense in the league. They also have two great running backs. Matt Leinart has been in this system for a year and a half, he knows it. All he has to remember is to play within himself. Nobody expects him to be Schaub.
The Texans are one of the very few teams that can lose their starting QB, and still expect to win. Johnson being back can only help. He is the best WR in football.

Man, talk about bad timing. The Texans are probably feeling a little "Bearish" right now. Wonder who will do better, Caleb Hanie or Matt Leinart.

Andre Johnson now has the chance to do something Larry Fitzgerald couldn't - make a winner out of Leinart.
