Casserly: 'Asomugha's knee will be OK'

Eagles superstar cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha left Thursday's practice early after being carted off with a knee injury. The concerns relating to Asomugha's injury are, obviously, quite large and his status was listed as "uncertain" earlier Thursday.

However, a source tells Charley Casserly of CBS Sports that "Asomugha's knee will be OK."

Additionally, Frank Roob of CSN reports that Asomugha's status for Sunday is "up in the air" but that there are no "long term or IR-type" of concerns relating to Asomugha's knee.

"We've got to stick to the game plan," strong safety Kurt Coleman said earlier Thursday. "Nnamdi's definitely a big piece of what we do on defense, but we have guys we can rotate in, guys who can do similar things. Everybody has to step up their game if he can't go. Everybody has to pick up the slack."

Losing Nnamdi -- regardless of how the Eagles use him in coverage -- hurt Philly's defense in a big way. The Eagles are already missing Dominque Rodgers-Cromartie, which means Asante Samuel might be the lone member of the Eagles big-name cornerbacks on the field Sunday against New England.

Casserly: 'Asomugha's knee will be OK'

This move was a complete waste of money and it's not because Nnamdi hasn't lived up to the "all world" status he was given. Before this season he only had 11 total INTs and 62 pass defends. He is an average CB that became a FA at  the perfect time. Enough about Nnamdi because I am not trying to knock him, but the Eagles and Reid showed how much they know by playing this guy in a zone, and then they will change it up and play Asante in man coverage. If they feel Nnamdi is as good as Revis he should cover the best WR at all times and let the rest of the team play their wide 9 zone.

If Reid is still the Eagles coach after this year I will be amazed and happy at the same time being a fan of a division rival. For as much as everyone makes Reid out to be this QB genius he has never won anything and will never win anything because he will never change his ways. He has a top 10 RB in his backfield and he doesn't use him enough. Mike Vick is no the franchise QB he is just an athlete with an amazing arm, he has never won anything and will never win anything. Until Reid and Vick are gone the city of Philly will never see a superbowl.

Casserly: 'Asomugha's knee will be OK'

Nevermind the fact Vick can't score any meaningful points in the 4th quarter.  All teams make runs, and that does not excuse the defense from horrid play, but having a top-flight QB that can manufacture 1st downs, control the clock, and score a touchdown late in the game also helps hold the lead.  There is no doubt the defense has to play better, but the 100 million dollar QB also has to play like one, which he hasn't all year.

You're right about the Eagles defense, no doubt about it.  Coughing up 5 losses in the 4th Q?  But it hasn't all been Nnamdi Asomugha.  Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie single-handedly lost one for us.  The biggest mystery for me is the question as to why a team that SUPPOSEDLY has a couple of the best cover men in the game, insist on running 3 versions of zone D, and almost never set them up man-to-man.  Even with DRC/Asomugha and Asante Samuel fully healthy, I am not optimistic about our chances vs your least favorite QB in the world this Sunday.

Ewinters43.....on the money.

Ewinters47, couldn't have said it better. This guy has been char-steered the entire season. Extra cripsy, well-done, stick a fork in him. I think Victor Cruz patented his salsa dance on Nnamdi this season. Seriously, hey, let's go sign the best cover guy in the NFL, and then put him in a zone scheme. That makes sense. Nice work.

I guess these things tend to happen when you sign your Offensive line coach to be your Defensive Coordiantor.

normally i would be worried about this but since the eagles defense has proven itself worthless countless times and asomugha's been burnt like toast all season, who cares?
