Jets think they can go 6-0, make playoffs

Can New York win out and make it to the postseason? (US PRESSWIRE)

Posted by Ryan Wilson

The Jets last played nine days ago against the Broncos, in a game just about everybody had them winning. But that was when we were still underestimating the awesome power of Tim Tebow. (Truthfully, that win had more to do with Von Miller and Denver's defense but who wants to talk about that? Oh, right: us!)

New York's now 5-5, two games back of New England in a division they have little chance of winning, and they're facing long odds of earning a wild-card berth, too.

The road to playoffs starts Sunday against the Bills, a team they demolished three weeks ago, 27-11. After that, it's at Washington, Kansas City, at Philly, New York Giants, and at Miami. Not the easiest slate of games, but also short of impossibly difficult. Which is good because the Jets will probably have to win out to have a shot at qualifying for the playoffs.

The news gets better: that's exactly what they intend to do.

“Six-and-0,” linebacker Calvin Pace said, according to the New York Daily News. “Sometimes when you get caught losing to teams you’re not supposed to lose to, you end up kicking yourself in the butt saying, ‘Man, we put ourselves behind the eight-ball. These are games we should win.’ ”

There's been a lot of self-flagellation through 11 weeks for the Jets then. The Pats whipped up on New York four days before the Broncos loss. And the Jets dropped three straight games to Oakland, Baltimore and New England after beginning the season 2-0.

“I feel like we do have to win these last six games,” said LaDainian Tomlinson. “That would put us at 11-5; that should be enough to get us in. You look at 10-6 and I don’t know if that is enough.”

In most years, 11 wins guarantees you a wild-card spot, and sometimes even a division title. But as it stands, the Jets are ninth in the AFC, and behind three teams for the sixth and final playoff slot. That said, they're only one game out of the No. 6 spot (Cincinnati is 6-4).

But it's still November. A lot can change in the next six weeks. We're just not sure if part of that change includes the Jets going on a six-game winning streak.

After a tough loss to the Broncos last week, the New York Jets hope to bounce back as they prepare to take on the Buffalo Bills on Sunday at MetLife Stadium. NFL.com's Pat Kirwan and Jason Horowitz have the preview. Watch the game on CBS at 1 PM ET.

Jets think they can go 6-0, make playoffs

"of course they should believe they can win every week. The issue with this team is that they talk so much that anything more just seems like noise, the Jets speak and it's just white noise. Like a radio station that you can't tune in, its annoying."

I am sure they call the CBS Sports to tell them hey we are going to win the next six game.

They (the CBS sports writers) have to make sure that people read them. What brings you to read them??? Ask yourself the question. Is it just the word "Jets"??? If that is the case and you are not a Jets fan, then you must be a haters. In wich case, cool, it's your life, and if you can't find anything better to do than hating a football team, have fun my friend.

Jets think they can go 6-0, make playoffs

declaring a coach who took a team that previously could barely record a winning record per year
Just within the last 10 years before the mouth Rex Ryan took over, the Jets went to the playoffs under Herm Edwards and Eric Mangini. If either of those guys had the benefit of the spending spree the Jets are on now, I'm sure they'd have gone further. Those guys were coaching the cheap Jets.

Jets think they can go 6-0, make playoffs

1 - Why do people don't read before posting? I did not see Rex Ryan's name in this article...I saw Calvin Pace, Tomlinson but no Ryan...

2 - Why would the players should not believe that their team is going to win every week????  Why should they think they are losers and walk with their heads down and show no pride???

3 - How should the Browns feel? And the Jaguars, the Panthers, the Rams, the Dolphins, the Bills, the Broncos , the Chargers and all these other teams who are at par or under the .500 mark? I will tell you what you want them to say : "We are a bunch of losers and we will lose the remaining games in our calendar and then we will go home to hide ourselves

4 - I believe that apart from the team you root for, we should ask to the players of all the teams to admit that they are all just a bunch of low life losers and that only the Green Bay Packers should be proud and believe that they can win every weeks, cause they are the only champions.

People again get a life. Every single player in this league should believe that they can win every weeks, no matter what happened so far.

Jets think they can go 6-0, make playoffs

Another moron who actually buys the media illusion that only those who WIN the SUPER BOWL  have "done well.  Wanna talk about brain damage... you actually are declaring a coach who took a team that previously could barely record a winning record per year - and in his FIRST TWO years (with a QB like Sanchez no less) - and he goes to the AFC CHAMPIONSHIP - TWICE!!  And you say "HE" is the one with brain damage??
(I'm no Jat fan either - just hate stupid attacks by brainless 'followers.')

Jets think they can go 6-0, make playoffs

Look, not a Jets fan but not a Jets hater either, but is there ANY chance whatsoever that Rex Ryan will ever shut up and accomplish something before he opens his friggin mouth? I mean the stuff that comes out is so random and conflicted that I think he has brain damage. My god one week he says his QB sucks and the next he's saying they can go 6-0. I think he has that new disease MTS. Morons Turretts Syndrome. Please just shut up and do something before you speak next. Jeez
