Osi Umenyiora's ankle could sideline him a month

The Giants season seems likely to turn into another disaster, coach Tom Coughlin likely will be on the hot seat again (if not on his way out of town), and another late-season collapse likely will commence at any time (hell, it might have already begun after falling 49-24 to New Orleans on Monday).

As Andy Benoit points out in one of his latest Film Room posts, the Giants road doesn’t get any easier this week vs. the Packers.

And now that defensive end Osi Umenyiora’s sprained ankle could keep him out a month (via the New York Daily News), you have to wonder what else can go wrong this season for the Giants.

According to one of the newspaper sources, Umenyiora "sprained pretty much everything in there,” which certainly doesn’t sound good for his short-term health.

“You never know with ankles," the source said. "It all depends on how fast they heal. And you know Osi. He wants to show everyone that he's going to push as hard as he can to get back on the field."

The injury occurred early in the Saints game when a teammate rolled onto his ankle. He returned to the locker room and received a painkiller injection. At first, he thought he could return, but the ankle was too swollen and painful. Though there’s no ligament damage, Umenyiora’s sprain is somewhere between a high ankle sprain and a low ankle sprain.

Considering Umenyiora also missed time at the beginning of the season following knee surgery and then didn’t get the contract extension he wanted, this has been a pretty crappy year for the defensive end. And pretty soon, for the rest of his teammates and coaches.

This figures, the guy sprains his ankle more than half way into the season. Why you might ask? Because he held out during spring training all because he wanted a fatter contract and be signed as one of the most highest paid DE in the league. if you ask me.... i think osi is loosing his touch. All I want is to have a healthy team and win a superbowl!

Osi may get a sack a game, but he's a reliablility when he's not getting sacks; plus we have Tuck, JPP, Tollefson, and Kiwi.  This really changes nothing as far as where the team goes this season.  If anything Boley was the killer.

Im so sick of hearing the same shyt. The reason the Giants didnt give you the contract you wanted isn't because your not one of the best in the league, its CUZ YOUR BUILT LIKE A GLASS HOUSE.
