Brandon Marshall detained for not paying cab fare

Marshall just wanted to go home. He ended up at tha airport. (US PRESSWIRE)

Posted by Ryan Wilson

Brandon Marshall has made more news off the field in recent months than anything he's accomplished during the Dolphins' 3-8 season. The latest: on November 14, hours after the Dolphins defeated the Redskins, Marshall found himself handcuffed in the back of a patrol car after a cab driver accused the wide receiver of refusing to pay his $142 cab fare.

Apparently, Marshall asked to be taken home before falling asleep in the back of the cab. When the cabbie woke him up, they were at the airport. Marshall does not live at the airport. He got into another cab without paying the fare in the first one. When authorities arrived, Marshall blamed the first cab driver's thick accent on the misunderstanding.

There was a happy ending, however: no one was arrested, Marshall paid his fare, and everybody shook hands. (You can watch the CBSMiami.com news report here.)

One of the most physically imposing wide receivers in the NFL, Marshall has 59 receptions for 850 yards and three touchdowns this season. In the right system, he's a game-changer, and those game-changing skills make it easier to overlook the off-field silliness. In the scheme of things, Marshall's wild (cab) ride sounds like an innocuous mistake. But trouble does seem to find the man.

In April, Marshall ended up in the hospital after his wife was accused of stabbing him. Several months later, he revealed that he was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. Back in 2008, when he was still with the Broncos, Marshall said he slipped while wrestling and fell through a television set at his home, cutting his right forearm. He later admitted that his right hand was numb during the 2008 season.

Brandon Marshall detained for not paying cab fare

I wonder if Brandon told the cabbie to take him 'home' or if he actually gave him an address to go to?

Brandon Marshall detained for not paying cab fare

This article is just pathetic...I wouldn't have paid the fare either.  Poor service is poor service...period.  If I get great service when I go out to eat I tip well, and I'm a poor college student (paying for his own education and car with a job so I'm not feeling sorry for myself, just stating that I have very little money).  If I got terrible service then I wouldn't tip even if I was wealthy...so people who think he should "grow up" should sit down because you would have done the same thing if you had been taken to the wrong location.

If I asked for a ride home and the cab driver drove me all the way to the airport I would have done the same thing no matter how much money I make. Its a matter of principle. If Habib can't understand English he doesn't get paid for his mistake....This is such a stupid article. Find something better to write about. No matter what famous people do they can't escape criticism even for something as trivial as this....Everyone else would have done the same thing if this moron drove you all the way to the airport.

First of all, he needs to learn just because he is rich, and famous he can't do everything he wants.  He needs to concentrate on playing football, not his millions of dollars. If he wants to have a bad attitude, then  tell him that HE NEEDS TO PLAY GOOD FOOTBALL, not the joke of games he gets away with!

sometimes it might just be a matter of principle.  brandon wanted to go home and the "thick- accented" cab drivertook him to the airport.

if that was me, i would not pay the fare also.

i wouldn't care if the fare was $3.   i would tell the cabbie to stick it and jump in another cab.

It seems like it was a matter of princile.

Why don't more English speaking Americans work as cab drivers?   If you are in this country, you should not complain about unemployment and take the available jobs.  Get off your duffs and take the many jobs available in the transportation service industry, fruit and vegetable pickers, hospitality service (a euphemism for working in food and hotel-motel service) and stop collecting unemployment.   It could be that we lazy "better than you" Americans think driving a cab is beneath us.
Anyway, Brandon Marshall should know better.  Pay the cab fare, take the cabby's number and report him.  Cabby's do get fired for poor service.  Then an eager English speaking and writing American can take the available job.  Doubtful.
