Teammate thinks Jackson is '[messing] around'

The big story this morning isn't that that Marshawn Lynch has come out of nowhere to be one of the league's best running backs this season. Or that "the plan" Pete Carroll referred during training camp really does include Tarvaris Jackson, who has played well in recent weeks.

DeSean's forgettable season
Instead, as is often the case anytime the Eagles play, the big story is DeSean Jackson, the mercurial wide receiver in the last year of this rookie contract who plays with all the urgency of a shorts and t-shirt minicamp workout. Following Philly's latest loss, a 31-14 effort against the Seahawks on Thursday night, Jackson admitted that he's "frustrated with losing," but when one of his teammates was asked if Jackson was completely in the game he said, "No, he's [messing] around."

If the plan is to sleepwalk through the current season for his current team and alienate the 31 others that might've had interested during free agency then mission accomplished, DeSean.  Otherwise, we have no idea what Jackson's doing and his "plan," unlike Pete Carroll's, is not only ill-conceived but it's going to cost him a lot of money.

Against the Seahawks, Jackson finished the game with four catches for 34 yards. Alone those numbers don't mean much. Without watching you might think that the Seahawks double-teamed Jackson, or that maybe the game plan was to feature LeSean McCoy. And at times, both were true. But Jackson's performance is mostly about his apparent unwillingness to … well, try.

"Actually there were quite a few plays called for him," head coach Andy Reid said. "They were making an effort to double him and move a safety in."

CBSSports.com's Mike Freeman wrote Friday morning about Jackson staring into oblivion while quarterback Vince Young tried to talk to him on the sidelines.

"If that's what they saw, that's what they saw," Jackson said of the cameras, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. "I don't have to sit here and answer them questions. My teammates know what it is."

And during pregame warm-ups, Jackson was hanging out with the defensive ends as the other wide receivers worked together.

"I'm not answering none of that type of question," said Jackson. "If you're going to ask something about the game, do that. . . . Next question."

Two weeks ago, Jackson told NFL Network's Michael Irvin that he's in the Larry Fitzgerald-Calvin Johnson range when it comes to his worth. Fitz makes $15 million this season, Megatron almost $9 million.

"I think right in that range," he said at the time. "Maybe top-5 in the NFL. ...My playmaking skills and abilities, my punt returns, and the ability to get the ball and score on any play. I mean, Fitzgerald, he's a special receiver -- don't get me wrong -- but he doesn't play special teams so that adds an extra edge to it."

In theory, yes. In practice, Fitzgerald has been just as dangerous on special teams this season as Jackson. And much more consistent at wide receiver, and that's with John Skelton throwing him passes.

NFL Network's Marshall Faulk got it right two weeks ago: "Showing up to any meeting late is definitely not a good way to handle (things) when you want money from a team."

Not showing up at all is even worse.

Teammate thinks Jackson is '[messing] around'

For those of you that think desean Jackson is underpaid are mistaken. He's under contract meaning he is paid for just that. Now when its his time to be a free agent. He can get the millions he is looking for.  He may be upset with all the signings but thats business and those guys fulfilled thier contracts. He is only going to hurt his market value pulling stunts like these. Matt Forte and Adrian Peterson's contracts are up this year and they have nothing but class the way they have gone about thier business. They may be upset, well atleast Forte has made it known, but he knows the light will be at the end of the tunnel after this season. If Desean Jackson gets a new contract will you have to worry about signing him to a 5 year contract and worry that during the 4th season of his contract that he starts to pull the same B.S because he will feel underpaid again.  Do your job and worry about a new contract at seasons end.

Why should he get paid more? The "kid" can't "flat out ball when focused." He's got speed and mediocre hands at best. He's not even close to Larry Fitz in being an elite receiver. Top 5 my ass. I'd take the 5 wr's that gb uses over him any day (ok, maybe only top 4, but you get my point - he's top 15 maybe). Bottom line: play out your contract, then get your money. Til then, shut up and play - or check out mentally and lose millions for the future.

"I'm not answering none of that type of question"??? - Guess he missed a few classes at Cal.

Hey Jerkwater Jackson, Don't like what you are making now, come on out into the real world and try to make a living with that attitude. Not only that, you are costing some of us some points in our FFL. Grow up stupid or get the hell off the planet.

In no particular order, recievers better than Jackson....
1. Wes Welker
2. Calvin Johnson
3. Larry Fitzgerald
4. Greg Jennings
5. Jeremy Maclin
6. Reggie Wayne
7. Steve Smith (Car)
8. Brandon Marshall
9. Roddy White
10. Andre Johnson

Those 10 WR off the top of my head I can think of better than Jackson. He is not even the best reciever on his own team. He is no top 5, as exciting as he can be, he can be equally stupid and destructful. I watch him and think wow this can be awesome, or wow, how effing dumb can a NFL player get?

So top 5 nope, top 15 yes but not even top 10... All the aforementioned receivers are consistent and show up to play.. Any thoughts on my 10 better?

Teammate thinks Jackson is '[messing] around'

I wish one time all thirty two teams and owners would have the guts to blackball some of the players that act this way whether they are star quality or not. Jackson should take a lesson from Forte and the no quit attitude he has. I wouldn't give  1 Forte for 10 Jacksons with the attitude Jackson had last night . It sure would go a long way toward tamping down all the arrogance and  bad attitudes some of these players have in thinking the NFL or its fans owe them something .

Is it an indictment of the college athlete system when he writes and speaks as incorrectly as he does? Or is it a personal thing with D. Jax? I am sure he didn't just catch footballs at ... where was it? Cal?  What are they teaching people out there?

Teammate thinks Jackson is '[messing] around'

Well Philly started this thing by bringing in all there FA's and paying them big money and they have done nothing for your team. Jackson has produced well and he is a very special talent and a game changer. He saved their season last year with the punt return and he has saved them on many other games with his big time performances! This kid can flat out ball when focused. I don't blame him for not going hard. You want to pay me $500k this season then thats what you going to get with my play. Pay me like you did everyone else and you signed Vick to $100 mill. Come on dude jackson has been the spark for this team for years and he deserves to get paid but not Fitzgerald money but he would be making $7-8 Million a season and just give him a 3 yr contract. The eagles don't want to pay him and they knew this would back fire on them but it doesn't matter because the defense can't stop a middle school team. they are terrible and play with no heart and none of them seem to walk to tackle. Why is that Eagles? The whole team should be put on notice they STINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am embarassed to be a philly fan right now!!!!!!

This clown has been this way since he made a huge scene picking CAL over USC.   (Sorry Meshaun, you could never beat SC on the field)
He's full of talent, but full of himself, and just doesn't get it.  He's NOWHERE near the receiver Fitzgerald is.  Not even in the same ballpark.

Jackson has done one stupid thing after another.  He's a fast little dude, that's it.
