Teammate thinks Jackson is '[messing] around'

The big story this morning isn't that that Marshawn Lynch has come out of nowhere to be one of the league's best running backs this season. Or that "the plan" Pete Carroll referred during training camp really does include Tarvaris Jackson, who has played well in recent weeks.

DeSean's forgettable season
Instead, as is often the case anytime the Eagles play, the big story is DeSean Jackson, the mercurial wide receiver in the last year of this rookie contract who plays with all the urgency of a shorts and t-shirt minicamp workout. Following Philly's latest loss, a 31-14 effort against the Seahawks on Thursday night, Jackson admitted that he's "frustrated with losing," but when one of his teammates was asked if Jackson was completely in the game he said, "No, he's [messing] around."

If the plan is to sleepwalk through the current season for his current team and alienate the 31 others that might've had interested during free agency then mission accomplished, DeSean.  Otherwise, we have no idea what Jackson's doing and his "plan," unlike Pete Carroll's, is not only ill-conceived but it's going to cost him a lot of money.

Against the Seahawks, Jackson finished the game with four catches for 34 yards. Alone those numbers don't mean much. Without watching you might think that the Seahawks double-teamed Jackson, or that maybe the game plan was to feature LeSean McCoy. And at times, both were true. But Jackson's performance is mostly about his apparent unwillingness to … well, try.

"Actually there were quite a few plays called for him," head coach Andy Reid said. "They were making an effort to double him and move a safety in."'s Mike Freeman wrote Friday morning about Jackson staring into oblivion while quarterback Vince Young tried to talk to him on the sidelines.

"If that's what they saw, that's what they saw," Jackson said of the cameras, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. "I don't have to sit here and answer them questions. My teammates know what it is."

And during pregame warm-ups, Jackson was hanging out with the defensive ends as the other wide receivers worked together.

"I'm not answering none of that type of question," said Jackson. "If you're going to ask something about the game, do that. . . . Next question."

Two weeks ago, Jackson told NFL Network's Michael Irvin that he's in the Larry Fitzgerald-Calvin Johnson range when it comes to his worth. Fitz makes $15 million this season, Megatron almost $9 million.

"I think right in that range," he said at the time. "Maybe top-5 in the NFL. ...My playmaking skills and abilities, my punt returns, and the ability to get the ball and score on any play. I mean, Fitzgerald, he's a special receiver -- don't get me wrong -- but he doesn't play special teams so that adds an extra edge to it."

In theory, yes. In practice, Fitzgerald has been just as dangerous on special teams this season as Jackson. And much more consistent at wide receiver, and that's with John Skelton throwing him passes.

NFL Network's Marshall Faulk got it right two weeks ago: "Showing up to any meeting late is definitely not a good way to handle (things) when you want money from a team."

Not showing up at all is even worse.

Teammate thinks Jackson is '[messing] around'

Anyone who watched the behavior of DeSean Jackson had to lose some respect for the guy. Even though he is under-paid, the fact is that he is "paid" for his services. He wants a new deal that would pay him more money but I guess that over the last 3 years, inflation has really gotten to this guy. His antics this year have reminded me of a player we all know as T.O. The are a few differences of course but T.O. produced and produced. It is fair to say that T.O. is a potential hall of famer while Jackson is just a shame or sham which ever you prefer. No production means no money DeSean...No play, no pay...This guy is selfish and has quit on his team. His attitude needs a major overhaul and the people around him obviously are not giving him any good sound advice on how to handle this situation. If he really felt that he was underpaid than he should have just held out until he received a deal he could not only live with but perform up to his previous standards. I had totally agreed with him during the preseason of holding out to get a better deal, NFL is business and you have to look out for numero uno. I agreed with him that he deserved more money and guarantees in his contract, I agreed with him that he is a raw talent and should be compensated for that. Once he decided to end his holdout and except the terms of his contract for this season, than so be it. 12 weeks into the season and he starts whinning and resorting to child like behaviors on the sidelines with the entire football nation watching. Jackson just went from signing for multi-millions to losing multi-millions of dollars on his next deal with another organization. We all know that the Eagles are going to overhaul their current roster and it's just too bad that Eagles will have to let Jackson walk away and not get anything for him in return. Just by witnessing his behavior during the last game, on the sidelines pouting, motionless look on his face and clearly checked out, is he even worth a late round draft pick or two knowing what type of character this guy has when times are tough. This is clearly a time when the Eagles need team leaders and strong character to get them through this tough time and Jackson just isn't up to the job. And he wants millions of dollars for what???

I've played sports growing up, and I've played with guys like Desean Jackson.  These players have their moments, and then they have their moments.  In the end they even out, but they do cost you games.
How many games did Jackson win for the Eagles and how many games did he cost them?  Last week against the Patriots, you can argue that his failure to sacrifice his body on the 4th down play in the end-zone may have cost the Eagles that game, but in reality the defense couldn't stop Brady so that game was probably a loss anyway.  He has certainly made enough bonhead plays, but has he really cost the team any games?

A also suppose you can blame him for the loss to Arizona, since he was suspended for that game, but there is no excuse for losing to Arizona at home, especially when they are palying a back-up QB.

Everyone in America complains that they aren't paid enough, he just happens to have a mic in his face about it! Desean, I know you don't read stuff like this, but shut up and play!!!!  You arent even the best on your team!!!  You will be lucky to be around for 4 more aren't nearly as big and tough as you think you are.  People would kill to be in your position in life and you are pissing it away because of your ego!!  I dont even like the Eagles or desean, just tired of hearing about them!

i also watched the game and young seemed to be almost dead on with his passes, way to many dropped balls.
Four of those passes were dead on to the Seahawks

Apparently, Jackson is using a new strategy to get that big contract he wants. Save your body and show what great shape you are in for your new employer. Unfortunately, for DeSean, that new employer may be the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
He'll be playing in the NFL and making a lot more than the $637K that he is currently getting.  He may not get as much money as he hoped for, but he'll do fine, especially with some nice incentives in his contract.  I guarantee you, whatever team signs him will get their money's worth.

He's fast. That's about it. My cat is fast and he can't catch a ball either so why pay either of them. Wouldn't want Duh-Sean on my team.
