The big story this morning isn't that that Marshawn Lynch has come out of nowhere to be one of the league's best running backs this season. Or that "the plan" Pete Carroll referred during training camp really does include Tarvaris Jackson, who has played well in recent weeks.

DeSean's forgettable season
Instead, as is often the case anytime the Eagles play, the big story is DeSean Jackson, the mercurial wide receiver in the last year of this rookie contract who plays with all the urgency of a shorts and t-shirt minicamp workout. Following Philly's latest loss, a 31-14 effort against the Seahawks on Thursday night, Jackson admitted that he's "frustrated with losing," but when one of his teammates was asked if Jackson was completely in the game he said, "No, he's [messing] around."

If the plan is to sleepwalk through the current season for his current team and alienate the 31 others that might've had interested during free agency then mission accomplished, DeSean.  Otherwise, we have no idea what Jackson's doing and his "plan," unlike Pete Carroll's, is not only ill-conceived but it's going to cost him a lot of money.

Against the Seahawks, Jackson finished the game with four catches for 34 yards. Alone those numbers don't mean much. Without watching you might think that the Seahawks double-teamed Jackson, or that maybe the game plan was to feature LeSean McCoy. And at times, both were true. But Jackson's performance is mostly about his apparent unwillingness to … well, try.

"Actually there were quite a few plays called for him," head coach Andy Reid said. "They were making an effort to double him and move a safety in."'s Mike Freeman wrote Friday morning about Jackson staring into oblivion while quarterback Vince Young tried to talk to him on the sidelines.

"If that's what they saw, that's what they saw," Jackson said of the cameras, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. "I don't have to sit here and answer them questions. My teammates know what it is."

And during pregame warm-ups, Jackson was hanging out with the defensive ends as the other wide receivers worked together.

"I'm not answering none of that type of question," said Jackson. "If you're going to ask something about the game, do that. . . . Next question."

Two weeks ago, Jackson told NFL Network's Michael Irvin that he's in the Larry Fitzgerald-Calvin Johnson range when it comes to his worth. Fitz makes $15 million this season, Megatron almost $9 million.

"I think right in that range," he said at the time. "Maybe top-5 in the NFL. ...My playmaking skills and abilities, my punt returns, and the ability to get the ball and score on any play. I mean, Fitzgerald, he's a special receiver -- don't get me wrong -- but he doesn't play special teams so that adds an extra edge to it."

In theory, yes. In practice, Fitzgerald has been just as dangerous on special teams this season as Jackson. And much more consistent at wide receiver, and that's with John Skelton throwing him passes.

NFL Network's Marshall Faulk got it right two weeks ago: "Showing up to any meeting late is definitely not a good way to handle (things) when you want money from a team."

Not showing up at all is even worse.

Teammate thinks Jackson is '[messing] around'

2 things bothered me last night on the NFL network.

1.) They said like the above quote i put in here is that Jackson wasnt even paying attention to Vince Young when he was trying to talk to him on the bench. If anyone actually saw that last night you could not tell what so ever that Young was trying to talk to him. Young was standing up looking toward Jacksons direction but there was also a player in a big black winter coat standing next to Young and you couldnt even see the rest of the bench. And I know a few minutes before then Riley Cooper was right there. Most likely Young was talking to Cooper but you couldnt see him because of the player blocking the TV's Few.

2.) Then the NFL Network said jackson hasnt talk to anyone all night at the sametime he is talking to his teammates hahahaha

Seems to me the media is trying to find anything to put down Desean Jackson. Unless Mike Freeman is right next to jackson on the sideline then dont say he was trying to be talked too when you dont really know

Just another guy with a load of talent and a "me" attitude. But there will be
a GREEDY owner who will satisfy his so called demands , get burned by the
contract and wonder why !

If Vick was any kind of leader he would have gotten Jackson under control early.  Look at Brady.. he had Randy under control for a few seasons... better than anyone else has ever.

Top five wide-out? I don't think so. He has to prove himself more to even be considered in the top 5. If you ask me i think he needs to step up his game, and actually participate in practices, show up to them and during pre-game warmups he needs to be with the recievers, and not with the defense. And if he doesnt doesnt do that, then release him.

Like legendary head coach Mike Singletary once said, "Can't Play with him, can't win with him".  I wouldn't give him a nickel to play on my team.

Most players give more effort in their contract year than any other year. Which is kind of sad but at least it makes sense for them. This guy is just so incredibly dumb. Does he not realize his FA value is dropping by the minute?

I hope all this wasn't because he didn't get an extension.  The Eagles made the right move telling him to stick it (unlike the Titans with Johnson).  Jackson thinks he stuck it to the Eagles by being a terd all year...but in fact, when he doesn't get a fat contract from the Eagles or another team, he will realize he was the one that got punked.

Top 5? Does anyone think he is even top 10, top 15? He is not a elite WR, he can't do it, he won't go over the middle, and quite honestly any play where it appears he will get hit he will go back to his alligator arms routine.  I personally think he has never got that Atlanta Falcon hit out of his head from last year.  He has moments but he as never been the same.  There are so many WRs that are worth more than him right now based on his play and attitude.  Jordy Nelson, Percy Harvin, Wes Welker, just to name a few that match his game.  He is an explosive returner and at times can dominate a game, but only with his deep threat. He is not a true possesion receiver and qill never be paid like an elite WR based on that alone, factor in his attitude, quitting on his team, etc it'll be interesting to see who signs him and for how much.  Andy Reid has his hands full the rest of the year with him, let alone their disaster season.  On a side how ironic is it that Vince Young labeled them the Dream Team and in turn threw 4 picks in the loss that ended their season.  I'd cut him, let Kafka play.

I think The Eagles should sit him the rest of the year and send him to Middle School so he can learn how to speak English correctly and mature to at least an 8th grade level. Of course maybe "He Just Done Don't Will Want to go" and we will have another Under Educated Spoiled Athelte, who made Millions in this country. I wonder why the emerging superpower countries (China, etc) top paid professions are Scientists, Teachers/Professors and Industrialists and their Lowest paid professions are Athletes and Actors. Hmmm, maybe they have been studying us and are on to something ???
