Will Harrison's hit on McCoy lead to a suspension? (Getty Images)

The big storyline from Thursday's Browns-Steelers game was that quarterback Ben Roethlisberger returned after suffering a high-ankle sprain and led Pittsburgh to their 10th victory of the season. A subplot that has since taken center stage: James Harrison's fourth quarter helmet-to-helmet hit on Browns quarterback Colt McCoy. CBS Sports NFL insider Charley Casserly said Sunday that "I would not be surprised at all if the league suspended [Harrison] for one game, the cost being $73,500 for one game check."

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the NFL is considering suspending Harrison for "one or two games" for the infraction.

Here are Casserly's full remarks on the Harrison situation from Sunday's The NFL Today.

"Let's take a look at the facts: last year he was fined four times with the largest fine being $75,000 which was reduced to $50,000," Casserly told James Brown. "This hit [against McCoy Thursday] is worse than the $75,000 (hit).

"The second thing is, the league office told [Harrison]: next infraction, escalating discipline, including a possible suspension. Head coach Mike Tomlin went to the league office this year to do what I call 'a review of the rules.' From the league's point of view, there's no excuse for any Steeler not knowing the rules.

"In my opinion," Casserly continued, "I would not be surprised at all if the league suspended him for one game, the cost being $73,500 for one game check. And, in my opinion, if I was doing this, I would absolutely suspend him. Either he doesn't know the rules, or doesn't understand the rules. A stronger message than a fine has to be sent in this situation."

Charley Casserly beaks down James Harrison's hard hit on Colt McCoy on Thursday night, which may lead to a possible suspension.

Report: James Harrison could face suspension

You are an idiot.  Had the Browns done that to Roethlesbeger you Steeler fans would be howling for whoever hit him to be executed.  Yes I am a Browns fan and yes I hate the Steelers, but I also have enough intelligence to give credit where credit is due, whether it is a Steeler, Brown or Patriot.  What Harrison did was bush league.  If you take off your rose colored Steeler glass and watch the hit, you see Harrison lower his head and drive it into McCoy's jaw and face.

For your information, McCoy took the hit and even had enough class to pat Harrison on the helmet, granted he probably didn't know what he was doing at that point, but none the less he did it.  Harrison has been doing this for years and the league has been warning him for years, so suck it up as you Steeler fans so enjoy telling everyone else and deal with the consequences.

WHen is everybody who never played ball on a serious level going to realize football involves serious hitting AND that you can't control what the player you are going to hit does? If McCoy doesn't squint and duck it's not helmet to helmet - it's shoulder to chest. Everybody just wants to jump on the "Harrison is a meanie" bandwagon. What he is is a hard-hitting wide-open physically aggressive tackler. Guess what? That's what every team out there wants to have playing linebacker. Look at Lewis and Suggs, LT, the old Steel Curtain guys, Von Miller, whoever...if they're a great linebacker they stick and sometimes they don't hit exactly clean.

Report: James Harrison could face suspension

The NFL must be strapped for cash in the holiday season and they need to make a withdrawal from their emergency bank account, James Harrison.  Any quarterback who can't take a hit should put on a skirt and high heels and we can play 2 hand touch on him.  Big Ben goes out there week after week and takes harder hits than your fining Harrison for and gets up and keeps playing.

I'd go on to explain the difference between playing hard and playing in a way that's going to help your team win (proper tackling), but from the intelligence of your post I'm guessing that you've had a few dozen concussions yourself.

It's about time the NFL came down on this POS. 6th time in less than 2 years he's been either fined or facing a fine for helmet to helmet contact. Who do you blame......Harrison, he doesn't know any better. He beats his baby's momma, has his pit bull attack his kid...they guy needs to understand the rules. Tomlin went to the NFL Office to get the official review to the rule so the Steelers should all know it.

Cassely is absolutely correct.....either Harrison is stupid, which I agree with or he pretty much has told the league he will do what he wants. How soon willl it be that "SILVERBACK", what a pathetic nickname, will be referred to as CRYBABY and threatens to retire......AGAIN.

It's about time the NFL starts coming down on Harrsion for his disregard for the rules.

Please review it again. He didn't lead with his head. It's very clear. If anything Colt lowered his head and body into Harrisons.

wrong. Harrison lead with his head. His facemask was not visible. If he had kept his facemask up you could argue that.
