Urlacher on Tebow: 'He's a good running back'

By Will Brinson

Top of the Tebow to you, folks. Monday is the day where the bandwagon following Tim Tebow and the Broncos probably becomes too crowded (and the coverage of Tebow finally reaches a saturation point). Just do not expect Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher to be on board.

Week 14 Recap

Urlacher, speaking to the press after Denver's miraculous 13-10 victory over Chicago Sunday, said that Tebow as "a good running back."

"He’s a good running back," Urlacher said Sunday. He does a good job for them. They have a good offense with him back there. They do some different plays. I thought we did a good job overall."

The Bears did a great job, really, when it came to defending Tebow much of the game. The problem was they became too reactionary late in the game, which allowed Tebow to succeed through the air, Tebow's receivers stopped dropping every pass, and Caleb Hanie/Marion Barber couldn't put any points on the board.

Back to Urlacher's slight of Tebow, though -- the Broncos quarterback appreciates it. Of course.

"Coming from a really good player, that means a lot," Tebow said when asked about Urlacher's comments.

That cracks me up for some reason. But other players on the Bears defense don't find it quite so funny.

"We missed some opportunities in the game," defensive end Julius Peppers said. "We have to finish better; that’s pretty much it. It wasn’t anything special that [Tebow] did."

Lance Briggs, the linebacker who last week pointed out how mad he'd be if the Bears lost, was a bit more subdued.

"Played hard," Briggs would only say when asked about Tebow's performance.

Briggs is probably the only one who's right about this. Tebow did play hard, but he also did do something special and he did not act like a good running back on Sunday. In fact, he was pretty ineffective on the ground and didn't really get rolling until he turned into an all-world passer -- against the Bears defense -- in the fourth quarter and overtime.

It's OK to be upset about losing but at least give the guy his due.

Urlacher on Tebow: 'He's a good running back'

Hmmm, ok. I guess I missed it when Coach Fox switched out the entire defense after the first 5 games. I mean, this was the defense that was 1 and 4, right? Man, Coach Fox must have really been playing the waiver wire inserting all those new defensive players. Let me see, I know he changed out the quarterback when the team was at 1 and 4. Hmmm, what changed in this equation? I guess it is the defense.
Hmmmm, let's see.  Von Miller was benched during games early in the season for blowing assignments and generally being out of position.  Champ Bailey missed Weeks 2, 3, and 4.  Doom missed Weeks 2 and 3.  Marcus Thomas missed the first 4 weeks of the season.  D.J. Williams missed the first 3 weeks of the season.  Quinton Carter didn't start until Week 7, Rahim Moore started beforehand.  Broderick Bunkley was a new addition to the team and the rest of the defense was switching back to a 4-3 from a 3-4 the previous year.  Have you ever heard of a team needing time to gel as a unit?  Obviously not because you made a slew of stupid blanket statements above.

Urlacher on Tebow: 'He's a good running back'

Last comment was based on this

Tebow is one of the worst QB'S in the game. He has played against a bunch of nobodys and won. Lets see how he does against a real team in New England and then we can talk. He is a running back playing QB. He will never win a Super Bowl for Denver as thier QB and he never will be worth a shit as a QB. His best position for him to play for a longtime in the NFL is tight end. Elway even said he is not Denver's QB of the future so for all you who is jumping on the bandwagon goodluck cause you are going to need it. He is terrible as a NFL QB. Period

Urlacher on Tebow: 'He's a good running back'

Jets 9-5, Bears 7-6 Both winning teams, both lost to Tebow

Dolphins went on a three game win streak after losing to Tebow and the Broncos

Im not saying he has beaten all great teams, but to say that he has played NO ONE is a little naive bro. Even Brady and the patriots lost to the bills, so anyone can beat anyone.

And a 7-1 records doesnt lie.

Urlacher on Tebow: 'He's a good running back'

Yeah Right!  Just like he could never be a NCAA Division 1 starting quaterback,  He could never win the Heismen, He could never win a NCAA National Championship, He could not be successful as a starting quarterback in the NFL.  Ok what he does as a quaterback is not pretty, it is not the NFL norm. but right now it is successful.  I believe the biggest thing that everyone is missing is the leadership and drive to succeed that he brings to the field.

Urlacher can't do what Tebow did Sunday

Urlacher on Tebow: 'He's a good running back'

This comment by Urlacher actually made me laugh, cuz it makes him sound like one of these bitter analysts who keeps trying to make excuses when Tebow does sometihng impressive.

News to Brian Urlacher, that "Running Back" torched your defense through the air in the 4th quarter and Overtime and was 18-24 for 191 yards and a TD in that stretch.

So maybe instead of dogging Tebow after he beat you, why dont u take out your bitterness on your defense that allowed it. Oh wait, THAT INCLUDES YOU.

If Brian says that Tebow is a "good running back", I would love for Tebow to say when asked about Urlacher "He was a good spectator in the second half"

Really, the defense is the only reason the Broncos are winning. Hmmm, ok. I guess I missed it when Coach Fox switched out the entire defense after the first 5 games.
