The Dolphins lost to the Eagles on Sunday, falling 26-10 in South Beach for just their second loss in the last six games. But the effort reportedly won't be enough, as there are rumblings out of Miami that Sparano will still be fired at the end of the year.

That's according to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, who reported on Sunday afternoon that as of right now, Sparano is out at the end of the season, though GM Jeff Ireland is currently slated to stay on with the franchise.

Per Salguero, the team is "adamant no final decision has been made" regarding Sparano's future, but the reality is that they do intend to let the coach go following the season.

The logic behind canning Sparano and keeping Ireland is pretty obvious: owner Stephen Ross believes the roster's chock-full of talent (thanks to Ireland's assembly) but has been underachieving (thanks to Sparano's coaching).

Week 14 Recap

What's interesting about this, though, is that if Ross truly wants to chase a big-name coach in the offseason, he may face an issue with personnel control. It's believed that Ross would love to land either Bill Cowher or Jon Gruden in Miami, but both guys might demand more personnel control than what's offered if the team's under Ireland's control.

There are plenty of other candidates out there that won't demand control over what players are on the roster, of course, so it's not like Ross can't land a good candidate this offseason, provided he knows what he's looking for.

The real key may be whether or not Ireland believes that Matt Moore is the quarterback of the future as that will change the way Miami approaches the draft and free agency with respect to the availability of signal callers.

And, of course, if they think Moore's the guy, he actually needs to be the guy.

Ross is a clown of an owner; this isn't the greatest job out there.

There area couple of teams in the PAC-12 still looking for a coach. Perhaps a change of scenary will do him good. I am actually totally joking I hope to gawd he doesn't got to UCLA, on the other hand couldn't be much worse than Neu-WEASEL.

I agree that Parcells is the real blame here!

And yes, the word is out that his teams play well his first year and then have had enough of his rhetoric and tune him out

Isn't Miami the powerhouse Parcell's built?  Parcell's has lived off his Giant years.  His teams after that overachieved the first year and for the most part deteriorated but were somewhat competitive.  He had as many draft misses as hits.  Parcells won about 70% of his games and his Superbowls with Belicheck as his Defensive Coordinator and about 40% of his games without him.

I agree with the majority of posters that Ireland has to go.  They need to blow up this entire structure put in place by Parcells and start over.

By the way, I am a lifelong Cowboy fan.  As great as Parcells was reported to be, he was just as great a disappointment in Dallas.  We do have Romo (undrafted FA) and Ware but we had more busts than hits.

Simply another case of a good coach, who isn't a good Head coach.  He does appear to be a good guy which is great.  The players can rally around him and win some games which is great.  Didn't that happen last year too?  Bottom line is that you need to put your team in a position to win week in and week out.  You have to have control over every aspect of your team.  You have to be able to game manage, not just coach or teach technique.  Many teams go for a 'hot name' coordinator when searching, often times to save a little dough.  Unfortunately, you often put good coaches into a position where they are just in over their heads.  I think this happened in Miami, similar to what I feel is an ongoing situation in Chicago (Bears fan here).  I hope Miami does get someone in who can lead them back to some prominence.   I certainly hope Cowher doesn't end up there.  Really hoping for an overhaul to my Bears with Mr. Cowher handed the keys to the organization!!

Report: Sparano to be fired, GM Ireland to stay

"Dolphins fire Sparano" would be an actual story.  "Dolphins to fire Sparano" is not story-worthy.  It's just intuition that thousands have been speculating since around game 3 or 4 of the season.  In a related story, Rams to fire Spags, Packers not to fire McCarthy.

Report: Sparano to be fired, GM Ireland to stay

Been living in South Florida all my life, I have seen the Dolphins turn from a once proud franchise to this.  Sparano is NOT the problem.  For the last 20 years its been bad draft after bad draft.  Bad trades after bad trades.  Never drafting a quality quarterback once Marino was getting too old.  Many chances came and went to draft a QB while Marino was still playing.  Green Bay is the perfect example.  Farve wasn't going to play forever.  So they went out and got themselves one of the best QBs in the NFL today.  The list of misjudgements is long.  This team does not have the talent they THINK they have.  Sparano has coached this team into winning.  The owner is just looking for a "Name" to coach this team in the future.  The Dolphins have been down this road before (Jimmy Johnson).  This team needs stability and consistency.  Saying that, Ireland HAS TO GO.  Sparano can only coach with what he is given.  He has been given subpar players to coach.  Hire one of those big names and see what you get.  Holmgren is the perfect example.  He wanted complete control in Seattle.  What were the results?  You need a coach to coach and you need front office people competent enough to know what the coach needs.  The Dolphins are lacking in the front office.  Fix the front office and you will get results.  If they fire Sparano and hire a big name coach, that coach is not going to put up with the front office BS.  So they need to figure out where they are and where they are going.  Fast.

If coach is fired the Gm has to go to. As a longtime Dolphins fan it's very sad to see my team my every four years looking for a new coach.
