Report: Sparano to be fired, GM Ireland to stay

The Dolphins lost to the Eagles on Sunday, falling 26-10 in South Beach for just their second loss in the last six games. But the effort reportedly won't be enough, as there are rumblings out of Miami that Sparano will still be fired at the end of the year.

That's according to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, who reported on Sunday afternoon that as of right now, Sparano is out at the end of the season, though GM Jeff Ireland is currently slated to stay on with the franchise.

Per Salguero, the team is "adamant no final decision has been made" regarding Sparano's future, but the reality is that they do intend to let the coach go following the season.

The logic behind canning Sparano and keeping Ireland is pretty obvious: owner Stephen Ross believes the roster's chock-full of talent (thanks to Ireland's assembly) but has been underachieving (thanks to Sparano's coaching).

Week 14 Recap

What's interesting about this, though, is that if Ross truly wants to chase a big-name coach in the offseason, he may face an issue with personnel control. It's believed that Ross would love to land either Bill Cowher or Jon Gruden in Miami, but both guys might demand more personnel control than what's offered if the team's under Ireland's control.

There are plenty of other candidates out there that won't demand control over what players are on the roster, of course, so it's not like Ross can't land a good candidate this offseason, provided he knows what he's looking for.

The real key may be whether or not Ireland believes that Matt Moore is the quarterback of the future as that will change the way Miami approaches the draft and free agency with respect to the availability of signal callers.

And, of course, if they think Moore's the guy, he actually needs to be the guy.

DOLPHINS had their chance at a great QB in 2005

but then offered him little money to ride the bench LMAO
Guess what his name is???
DREW BREES
He then took the same money from the Saints to start
HE JUST WANTED TO START and the Dolphins didn't(scratching head)

Report: Sparano to be fired, GM Ireland to stay

after last nights debacle Fischer wont have to wait much longer.... not sure if Garret could hear the footsteps during those few snaps he took as the signal caller,  but he better be listening because that clicking he hears is Jerry baby coming to deliver him  a pink slip... Cowgirls are brutal!

Report: Sparano to be fired, GM Ireland to stay

I thought Tony had two years left on his contract?  They have been playing good as of late, but evidently it won't make a differnce.  Everyone will start screaming Jon Gruden now in Miami. But I dont think its going to matter who they have coach, they need a good solid QB to start with.  The defense is doing good this year and the offense has shown potentiol recently.  But I believe the problems with the team lie with the players, not the coach.

Jeff Fisher will not take the Miami coaching job, he is waiting for the Dallas Cowboys job.

Report: Sparano to be fired, GM Ireland to stay

I hate to see Tony Sparano lose his job after the Dolphins have played decent football over the past couple of months, but I think Jeff Fisher would be a perfect fit for them! I think it would be the best move possible for the way the team is built.

I've read this sentence about 10 times now and I still can't tell if it's supposed to be funny.  With this year's draft if they Dolphins don't end up with Luck (unlikely I know), Barkley or RG III (I'd go so far as to add Brandon Wheeden, who I really like, but nobody projects him to be a first round pick), Ireland and Ross may get run out of town by a pitchfork-wielding mob!

The Dolphins need a QB so badly, I'd wouldn't mind see them using the entire draft on QBs and just holding a big QB tryout before even consider other positions.  Tongue out  It's really do or die at that position for the Fins.  It's been FAR TOO LONG since Marino.

I feel they've over-performed thus far.
Wow.  Starting 0-7 and beating only one team with a winning record is over-performing?  I didn't have the highest hopes prior to this season, but what did you expect?  0-16?

The one team they beat with a winning record was the 7-6 Raiders.  The overall record of the opponents the Fins have beaten is 21-31.  They've also lost three games to teams with losing records.

Report: Sparano to be fired, GM Ireland to stay

Sparano was set up to be the scapegoat from the beginning of the Parcells / Ireland experiment. I can tell you this, there will be no top name coach in Miami as long as Ireland is there calling the shots. Just one bad draft after another with Parcells and Ireland, yet he (Ireland) will maintain employment with the club. Unbelievable.

Ross needs to wake up and get rid of Ireland before the situation in Miami gets worse than it already is.

Parcells used that club for his own personal gains and left nothing behind.
