Tony Sparano fired by Dolphins Monday

Black Monday isn't usually for a couple of weeks, but it came early for a pair of NFL coaches -- on the heels of Todd Haley getting dumped by the Chiefs, the Dolphins have fired Tony Sparano on Monday, CBSSports.com's Mike Freeman confirms.

We noted Monday morning that there were reports Sparano would be let go at the end of the season. It appears that timeline was ramped up, and it's entirely possible that owner Stephen Ross didn't want to fall too far behind other teams in searching for a new head coach.

Sparano, speaking to the media on Monday morning, would not address his job security.

Week 14 Recap

"No, I want to coach against the Buffalo Bills this week," Sparano said. "I'm going to get ready to coach the Buffalo Bills. That’s my sole focus. Can’t wait to get my team back here and Wednesday and get ready to go."

According to Mike Lombardi of the NFL Network, secondary coach (and Assistant Head Coach) Todd Bowles will take over as interim head coach for the next three weeks in Miami.

And there's an additional twist to the Miami situation emerging, as Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that former Chiefs president Carl Peterson will take over the role of "czar" in the front office, which has been vacant since Bill Parcells departure from Miami. (Peterson has been/is business partners with Ross and is believed to be a link to hiring Bill Cowher in Miami.)

But Peterson tells Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald that ESPN's report of him joining the Dolphins is "inaccurate."

There is no mercy at the NFL head coaching position. I knew this was coming, but hoped it wouldn't. Most of these posts say the same thing I feel. Injuries, and lack of good drafting strategy was Tony's downfall. Whoever gets him (and they'd better not wait) will be getting a damn fine coach. I loved the fire Ryan & hire Sporano to be DC in Dallas comment. That would be the thing they need. I've been a Dolphin fan since '71, and I just keep getting more and more depressed. I'm just about ready to give up on this shipwreck, any room on the Tebow bandwagon?

I think there's another Harbaugh bros. that they can hire, Is there? - just offer him 8million & he'll do the job for yah.
Head coaching job is a real bitch, cowboys should really reconsider hiring Sparano as their DC.

Interesting? Todd Bowles was named interim coach at Miami. Reports say Romeo Crennel will be named the interim head coach in Kansas City. Coincidence or collusion? Both are men of color. The NFL requires teams to interview at least one minority candidate for their head coach position when they become available. I wonder if these men are legitimate candidates or are they simply pawns in order for KC and Miami to get a jump on hiring the coach they're really after?

The Dolphins have one big Hurdle to jump and that is the unspoken Joe Robbie Curse; Joe bult the Dolphins and the Satdium formely known as Joe Robbie Stadium, The Dolphins will not be a winner again until the name of the Stadium goes back to where it belongs, not Shark beer or sunlife or any other payee.  When the stadium goes back to rembering who and what made them great, they will be winners again and never will be unless that happens....!

I mean lets be real, the Dolphins are fairly talented and Sparano let them get out as far as 0-7. But the timing was a little off when you consider that after losing his starting qb for the season, he turned the team around

First things first CBS, stop referring to people as 'csars'.  This means GM's (specifically Parcells and Peterson) and Offensive Coordinators who are also wretched upon with the term 'genius'.  Parcells left the Dolphin cupboard as depleted as could possibly be.  Ireland and Sparano are just toys that six year olds get tired of two days after Christmas.  I'm not sure Sparano has the mental fortitude to operate a gumball machine.  He is less popular than Nick Saban and couldn't spell it if I spotted him the N - i - and c.  This franchise digresses year after year with no strategy or plan in sight.  Sparano deserves to be fired and some of the ESPN cohorts need to call Parcells to the carpet and ask him what his take is on Sparano being canned.  I can only GM Jeff Ireland is next to get his walking papers.  Miami is a terrible sports town but I'm sure the next coach will say it's his dream job and darn lucky to be in South Florida.  So, stick to the facts and not the thesaurus.
