Jerry Jones says Jason Garrett not on hot seat

The 2012 rendition of the Cowboys can't stop collapsing -- Sunday night's loss to the Giants was just the latest in a year filled with second-half and fourth-quarter meltdowns. Despite that, Jerry Jones said Jason Garrett's job isn't in jeopardy.

Week 14 Recap

In fact, Jones wouldn't even talk about Garrett possibly being relieved of his duties when asked about it on his KRLD-FM radio show Tuesday.

“That is not a question worth responding to," Jones said, per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "The answer is no. We are just getting started here."

It's too early to speculate about Garrett's job under current circumstances -- the Cowboys are just a half-game out of first place in the NFC East and a game out of the Wild Card race, with three more games remaining.

But if things get worse and the Cowboys miss the playoffs, it's not out of the realm of possibility that Jones could consider a change, particularly if someone like Jeff Fisher is available and interested in the position.

But it's not too early to wonder what might happen if Dallas continues to lose games in the same fashion they've lost them this year. Fourth-quarter gifts to the Jets, Lions Patriots, Cardinals and Giants all stand out like a handful of sore thumbs and anything less than 2-1 the rest of the way in probably dooms Dallas in 2012.

If that's the case, Jones will be asked about Garrett's job status much more frequently, and if the manner in which the Cowboys fade is particularly disastrous, it's not inconceivable that his answer could change.

I believe Jerry is thinking long-term (5+ yrs) to grow his own Coach... He has the money and real Cowboys fans are still gonna be here year in and year out... time will tell

Sad to say Jerry Jones will never get a big time coach, his ego will not allow it. It might work for a year or 2 but the coach in question will get tired of Jerry's act rather quick. Cowboys lose this week to Tampa Bay , their season is all but over.

It's the 2012 season already? Twice the author referred to this as the 2012 season. Do some editing, man.

Can Blame Garrett for this loss. I blame that Fat Arse Ryan for the Loss. The fact that he is being mentioned for a head coaching job is just a joke.  The Cowboys had no business losing that game Sunday night. I'm sick of hearing how great Eli Manning was in the last 5 minutes of thte game.  Well when the defense jumps offsides 4 times, committs 2 holding penalties and can't tackle a tackling dummy your gonna lose the game even if a high school QB is at the helm.  Eli Manning QB skills are almost as inflated as Rob Ryans stomach, almost!

If you are winning a game and cannot stop the opposition from scoring and subsequently beating you would that have some bearing on your sorry Defence? Why is this Ryan character even considered head coach material? His defensive teams are giving away the games. Eli shredded them with four hundred yards in the air. Fire this guy first.

Actually, if you really want to get technical, the Cowboys did give away 5 games...Jets, Lions, Patriots, Cardinals and Giants. Why would you think they did not give away a game to the Patriots. Jason Garrett refused to call any passing plays near the end of the game, if the Cowboys had gotten a first down, they probably would have won, and Tom Brady would not have had a chance to drive down the field for the winning score. The Patriots are not good against the pass, and the Cowboys coach decided to run, instead of take advantage of a weak secondary. No guts...

Ok, let's try submitting this comment again, CBS!

That's 4 games now that Cowboys have given away--Jets, Lions, Cardinals, and the Giants. Pathetic.

Jerryones will never win if he keeps changing coaches. That was his fatal comment regarding Jimmy Johnson. You need a coach for six years in Big D at minimum just to get bearings straight.
