Breaking news: Rex Ryan likes to talk about the Jets and how dangerous they are. On Monday, he made sure that the world knows, in advance of a Christmas Eve New York matchup, that while the Giants are an "excellent" team, "I think we're better."

Giants coach Tom Coughlin was asked about Ryan's comments during his Wednesday press conference, and his response was, well, what you'd expect out of Coughlin -- he thinks "talk is cheap."

"I just say, regardless of the talk, it will be decided at one o’clock Saturday afternoon," Coughlin said. "Regardless of what is said. Talk is cheap, play the game."

Coughlin appeared pretty exasperated at his presser, and it's hard to blame him. The Giants breathed new life into their season by taking down the Cowboys two weeks ago, and then turned right back around and tried to kill it off again with a devastating loss to Washington on Sunday.

This Saturday, they're in a full-on elimination match, as a loss would put them at 7-8. Even if the Cowboys lost out, the Eagles (who play Dallas on Saturday) would win the NFC East tiebreaker.

Coughlin knows that, and he's fully aware that engaging in a public war of words won't do his team any good, even though he might use Ryan's willingness to talk to his advantage.

"Perhaps," Coughlin said when asked if he'd used the Jets talk to motivate his team.

Coughlin on Rex: 'Talk is cheap, play the game'

That is a fact about the Jets beating the Pats last year in the playoffs Giant fans.  As bigbado66 said, "Gets your facts straight..."

That being said, it isn't last year baffoon! I hope that Giants mop the field with you on Saturday you crybaby Jet fans.  The Giants are the class in NY, and the Jets are just big mouth morons always spouting out this type of jibberish.

Good luck Giants!!!  Take out the Packers in the playoffs as well!

Coughlin on Rex: 'Talk is cheap, play the game'

I have yet to see a game won by talking...I really liked Ryan when he first came into the league..but his act is growing tired and old.

Prepare your team and play the game..for some reason Ryan continues to act like he is the game.

Gets your facts straight, before you post- Rex and the Jets knocked out Brady and the Patriots last year beating them in Foxboro and going to their second straight AFC Championship game

I'm a confirmed Giants-hater, but Coughlin nailed this one on the head. Rex Ryan is a blowhard who'd really do better to focus on getting ready for the next game, not spewing rubbish all the time.

Does anyone actually listen to this fat bag of crap talk anymore? Rex Ryan's mouth is kinda like the boy who cried wolf, just instead its
the pig who ran his mouth.

I believe the writer has made an error in saying that the Giants would be eliminated from playoff contention should they lose to the Jets. It seems to me that should the Eagles beat the Cowboys then lose to the Redskins, and the Giants beat Dallas in the season finale that they would still win the division. The Giants and Cowboys would both be 8-8 with the Giants getting the tie-breaker and the Eagles would finish 7-9. I am not saying that this will happen or that it is even likely, but simply suggesting that it is possible. I am by the way a long suffering Jets fan.
